I always get the impression that a lot of posters here have a very rose tinted idea of what it means to be a professional boxer. Probably because they look from a perspective of the hard grinding guy that trains his ass off in his local gym, goes professional, taking a loss and then returns to the gym to work on the mistake he made in his last fight to hopefully get a break in the future... those guys exist, and very few of them are that little talented that they actually can be called bums. But, they forget to look at the dark side of boxing. The poor guys that see boxing as a way to make some money, the same way as giving blood at a local hospital for an extra buck. And there are commissions and countries that don't give a rats ass if someone can actually box or even trains and just give them a license, certainly in 3rd world countries. Those guys without proper training and/or talent step into the ring to get busted up by some guy that knows how to box a little (or a lot) and often don't make it out pf the 1st or 2nd round... up to the next "fight". Look at it compared to a homeless guy getting to play himself in a blockbuster movie, even getting to say a couple of words or a line. He probably gets an IMDB page and will be branded an "actor" and "played" in a big movie. From that day on that guy will be known as a professional actor, no matter who he is or even can act at all. Does that suddenly mean he is a better "actor" as a guy that goes to community theater and never lands a single role in even the smallest of tv series? NO, of course not! Boxing is the same. The guy from some backwater hamlet that gets beat up for some cash doesn't get some magical powers once he stepped into that ring for the first time, and neither when he gets carried out for the 20th time.
A really bad boxer. I use it hyperbolically though. Like, Jarrell Miller is a bum. Obviously he's not but he pissed me off and he isn't elite either so **** him, I'm calling him a bum.
p I've seen average day ppl basically mock a record of a pro in a good gym lol. A Basically 10-10 pro once completely wrecked this big mouth. Luckily there were level headed ppl there. Some gyms are terrible.
An old Kickboxer Cro Cop on his last legs outboxed Miller.. it's hard to let that sink in. I'm just saying Miller is not World champion Material & he's a cheater. He shouldnt be given a single $ from punching ppl in the face. It's proven he's trying to create an Artificial Mammoth abomination of himself. I would have no sympathy if Wilder Murdered Miller it'd be Karma Imho. Miller might have permanently damaged past opponents. Duhaupas 100% Natural Ban Miller for life imho
People are too sensitive about this word on here. I used it liberally because it's just a joke and a classic boxing term. People up in arms about the "disrespect to fighters" need to understand that nobody here would call a pro boxer a "bum" to their face and it's all fun and games. It's just forum lingo. People need to lighten up. I like Mayweather and Davis' "stone cold bum" jibe.
A "bum" is a fighter who turns up without any ambition of winning and is literally just there to get potted and take a beating. It is not based on the record, as there are fighters with poor records who really give it a go and will go for the win. It is based on a lack of ambition to win, a "sparring partner mentality" and someone just turning up to lose and add another 1 to the win column of a prospect.
I see "bum" always in terms of relative skill. Gatti wasn't a bum compared to Ward but he was a bum when sent into the slaughterhouse vs. Floyd. A single top 200 boxer - based on his own merits - IMO can't really be a bum. After all, he's among the 200 best in his weight class worldwide.
tend to agree with that Also true, except for strawweight, who regularly don't even have 200 active fighters or only just a couple more.
As some other intelligent posters have already iterated, bums are internet posters and trolls that chat **** about professional boxers. These cretins call professional boxers bums while having never achieved anything of note in their own personal lives. They are bitter haters, and biased prejudiced scum that put down fighters based solely on their nationality. Dealing with a bum poster If you encounter a bum online in this forum, see the following steps: To interact with a bum post or poster: Politely ask them to calm down. Ask for evidence or rationale to justify the bum posters claims towards the fighter they are hating on/bashing. Cite relevant posts (previously made by the bum) that indicate a track record of baseless hate, frothing at the mouth and other symptoms of illogical bashing by the poster. Ask the bum to judge not lest ye be judged, and put the spot light on their own favorite fighters in order to cause the bum to fall off their high bum horse. If the previous steps fail, lower yourself to the intelligence level of the bum and fight the bum using the dark arts of trolling until the bum poster is defeated. Continue step 5 until the bum loses motivation and leaves. Repeat upon their return.
