You do know that fighters age differently, you can't use the likes of Hopkins and Tarver as standards, because age affects fighters in different ways.
Oh, I thought you were saying Tua couldn't blame age for him performing so badly, not the weight issue, my bad. Still though, you can look at someone like Fernando Vargas, who at 28 was in the 200+ pound region (before his fight with Mayorga). Sometimes, when a fighter reaches a certain age, their body just stops responding the way it used to, maybe it's happenind to Tua earlier than it does other fighters. Maybe he physically can't cut down the weight because at his age, his body won't let him?
rule of thumb....if youre lazy with your career in your prime, meaning, alot of inactivity, **** opponents... , every weigh in was an adventure... it aint gonna get better as you creep up on 40:deal
Tua's always been an overated fighter cause he's exciting with lotsa power but the fact is he's never been good enough to beat a significant title holder, he's a C level fighter with A + level power and chin.
Let's not forget Tua did blast out former world champ Micheal Moorer too, and I rated Micheal Moorer as a boxer......even though his chin was fragile at times......he still dominated Foreman for the best part of 9 rounds. Tua did have a chin and punch power.......however he seemed to lack true boxing skills.........which were exposed when he met Chris Bryd and of course by Lewis. I would imagine Tua would have been badly out boxed by a peak Holyfield,Bowe and both K brothers too and dare I say it.....but he would probably have struggled with Valuev too......given that Valuev at least managed to stop a younger Barrett.
What id basically says is that Tua wasted away through his prime years embattled with legal tie-ups that had him waiting on the side lines throughout his prime years. The David Tua you saw fighting last night was just a fraction of the Tua that faced Ike Ieabucchi.
I'm glad for boxing that Tua lost because if he'd won we would have had Wlad-Tua in November which would have been a big joke. I think Tua showed he can still fight. He should still get an opportunity to fight the likes of Arreola and Welliver and hopefully earn something. Hell, would Tua vrs. Danny Green be possible (down the line)?
Indeed. Not to mention that all of his best performances(except Moorer) were when he weighed around 225. It's just sad but hey, if Arreola can get back in shape then it's hard to have sympathy for The Tuanator.
I kind of agree with the TS. Although it's obvious Tua always relied on natural ability and has lost a lot of that, he was fighting an even older fighter (I think) who is more shot than he is. Amazingly after the first Barrett fight people were still calling for Tua to fight for a world title
