I think a bit more credit should be given to Maidana its also a win that can grow. Its very reasonable to assume he can beat/stop a guy like Garcia in his return and be back with a good win. Not saying Maidana is some great but in 25 title fight's Maidana? Is the one aberration.
Maidana is a big, strong 160+ lb boxer on fight night. Manny pacquiao isn't. From the 6th round on in their first fight, Mayweather adjusted and made pretty easy work of Marcos. But his aggressive inside fighting style coupled with him being able to keep mayweather pinned on the ropes for long periods of time allowed him to have a good deal of success in the first half of their first fight.
Right now Maidana might very well be a better fighter right now. Pacquiao is a featherweight aggressive fighter. Most of those types of boxers are washed up by 31-32.
It says Maidana's camp knew they had no chance of winning those fights but at least they made it look good. Floyd intentionally hanging on the rope waiting for the sparring sessions to be over while occasionally standing in the middle of the ring and dinging Maidana's head.
Mayweather has been the favorite in every fight since Corrales for a reason. The narrative of Maidana was the same as many, after beating Broner everyone was with him saying he was too tough (which ended up being almost right) once he signed to fight he was given no chance. Same as everyone else.
We need to reassess where Pac stands in the current generation. He's been sheltered by Top Rank and most of his fights have been orchestrated by waiting on the sideline waiting for a name to lose then drain em. In legitimate challenges he hasn't fared well. JMM 4X. One could argue about who won/loss those. Nothing decisive except KTFO6! Floyd made easy work of JMM then Pacquiao. Morales past his prime beat Manny. The only real challenge Manny won decisively is Barrera I. I'll give him Bradley I too.
I think Manny has enough achievements, and enough names that you can't deny his greatness. But this is also a fair criticism.
