Williams does'nt have the defense to make it out of this one alive. Taylor had excellent defense on the rematch.

Excellent defense? He just paced himself and stuck to his jab. Defense has never been his strong suit.

It's also interesting to bring defense up, because I noticed Boo left "defense" out of his OP, and went for that interesting little "ring craft" comparison. But leaving the fact that Kelly almost never moves his head aside for a second, I hope we can all agree that Williams has a little more "ring craft" than Miranda and Taylor.

I'm also curious how Pavlik reacts mentally if he loses the first five or six rounds on the cards. Even if we agree that he was nowhere near 100% the night of the Hopkins fight, the way he reacted to getting absolutely shut down wasn't promising. Remember how Tito went for broke in the 10th against Hopkins? Where was that fire? With Paul's stamina, dropping way behind and giving him the chance to conserve energy is going to be problematic. He needs to be pressuring Williams and breaking him down from the first round on.

And then there's the question of how sharp Pavlik will be after this year full of distractions... I don't think he can beat Williams at 80% or 85% of his best.

this is a valid point. how the health/layoff issues have affected pav are more important than damn near anything else and worry me a lot more than williams.

100% old pav beats any mw today and the 100% old pav would walk through williams punches and beat the sweet jesus hell out of him.

BUT...the layoff/health is what worries me. this isnt winky pricing himself out of fights. the man has had his money maker in a wrap/operated on twice b/c of staph. im worried as hell that this will affect him waaay more than anything williams can do in the ring.

Pavlik don't need no ****ing defense! Defense is for pussies!!:tong

On a serious note, the question was "what does Willy bring that Pavlik hasn't seen?" ****, Bronco McKart and Ross Thompson have better defense than Paul.

Boo, Pavlik might be the favorite, but reading you, you seem to think that he dominates in every level. The difference might be how Williams will move once he feels Pavlik's power...

Agree about the movement. I honselty believe that a lot of how this plays out depends on PW's fight plan, and how he responds to Pavlik cracking him on the chin.

Paul impresses me as a tough and very tenacious individual. In my opinion I think he will try to fight fire with fire. Bad idea. Like the man said: Ya don't tug on superman's cape, ya don't pull the mask off the ole lone ranger, ya don't spit into the wind, and ya don't go to war with Kelly freaking Pavlik.

This fight is so hard to predict because i dont know if Pavlik got rid of the Ghost of Hopkins that has haunted him pretty badly!!!! He should of killed Rubio but was so tintative and passive. Paul Williams is fast ass hell but what happens when he gets hit by pavlik Flush???? Nitey nite or does he just smile and walk it off??? Too many question marks, therefore, i cant make up my mind!!! For those who really want to hear what i predict right now, i will tell you. I believe Paul by decision BUT i might change my mind tomorrow depending on how sharp Pav looks in trainning

williams is going to have to change his whole style to win this fight. he's gonna have to bring down his workrate DRAMATICALLY and pick his spots. the way he normally fights smaller guys who can't hurt him is going to get him knocked hard in this fight. when he throws non-stop he leaves himself way too open.

i'm really not sure how williams is planning on pulling this fight off. i guess he's just hoping his chin/body hold up. i have a feeling he's gonna get in the ring with the same strategy he always has of throwing a million punches and just weathering the punishment. the only problem is for the first time in his career he's not going to be able to... unless he has a seriously ATG chin and his core is in superman-like shape.

What you said about changes in style and approach is on the money. The people who are picking Williams in this one are picking him for all the wrong reasons. That was the main point of my original post. People pick Williams based on height, reach, work rate, and punching from odd angles. Pavlik has dealt with all those things many more times than PW has dealt with what Pav brings.

KP vs JT II: Kelly connected at 32% overall, 34% power punches.
KP vs JT I Kelly connected at 39% overall, 48% power punches.
    Pierre he landed at 37%.

McKart has better defense than Williams. Obviously 2006 McKart was not in the same league with 2009 Williams, but he NEVER got hit as much as PW does. In addition, KP is a better fighter now than he was back then.
