Did you actually watch the fight? Because Steward gave Taylor a shitload of directions in the corner on how to handle Pavlik, and Taylor didnt really follow any of them.
Manny has never picked Jones to win a fight that I can remember, he even said that Julio Gonzalez would beat him.. It all steams from what Jones said about Manny years ago when he tried to get Jones to fight Hearns. Back in 1997 Manny tried to get Jones to fight hearns and Jones said that he wouldnt, he said that Hearns was one of his hero's growing up and he would have nothing to do with fighting a guy that shouldnt be fighting anymore, and that Manny should be ashamed of himself for his part in it. He said that Hearns was already slurring his speech and should stop fighting... In short Manny doent like Roy, and would pick one of us to beat him.
Manny sucks as a trainer, he tried to turn every fighter he works with into Tommy Hearns, in fact how many fighters has he really helped outside of Lewis since hearns????
One things for sure. When this fight is over, regardless of the outcome, Steward will come out and say..."this fight went exactly the way I predicted it to."
A lot is put on Steward due to the losses of Hamed, Taylor and Cintron but to be honest; Hamed didn't care anymore; Taylor had more ability than boxing IQ; and Cintron wilts under pressure regardless of trainer by the looks of things. Sure there have been other failures, but he honed the talents of Wlad Klit (pretty much useless beforehand, now technically sound) Lennox Lewis (just kept him more in check by the looks of things) and Thomas Hearns (didn't even know he could punch before Steward if you believe the tale) So he can't be all THAT bad. I thinl he gives a decent analysis of the fight. However, I think Jones is going to TRY and bring his A Game to this fight....I just got a feeling his legs will give up on him at some point, and with Calzaghes workrate that will be vital. if Roy can do the unthinkable and stop Joe....well, that will be definite. But I don't think Roy can maintain a decent enough workrate at his age to win enough rounds against Calzaghe.
Pretty amazing that Steward could control how Taylor fought the rematch, since he wasn't even his trainer anymore. Taylor had already fired him and hired Ozell Nelson for the second Pavlik fight. ****ing brilliant analysis.
