I remember some years ago he held the WBO for some time and was a decent talent and contender at 54. Is he retired?:huh
He's been dodged. He became the WBA mandatory when he beat JA Rivera, so he hasn't fought since (because he doesn't want to lose his mandatory spot), but the WBA hasn't forced Alcine to defend against him yet. If he waits long enough, he should get that belt back - he's a class above Alcine, IMO.
A Guy I Know Said He Ran Into Daniel In Pr. And That At A Workout Santos Looked Like A Beast. Santos Was Waiting For A Mandatory Fight. Hope He Fights Soon.
this is a clear case of someone talking out of his ass. Alcine and Santos' camps are actually entering into purse bids by the end of the month Alcine won the title as the mandatory challenger in July 2007. It hasnt even been 10 months. In between winning his title and defending it against his mandatory (Santos), Alcine will have fought 1 optional defence. Simms beat Riveira to win the WBA title, then Alcine beats Simms to win the title from him, and now you're claiming Alcine is dodging Santos cause he beat Riveira? what a load of crap. Santos has earned his shot at the title and now he is gonna get it. Anyone who says Alcine is ducking Santos has no clue what they're talking about.
I wasn't saying Alcine was ducking him, but prior to the JA Rivera fight he was being ducked (not necessarily by Alcine though), which is why he's only fought two times in the past two years. He's a classic high-risk low-reward opponent, so he'll always have trouble getting fights if he doesn't have a belt. I did say the mandatory hasn't become due yet. It's not a situation like Maskaev dodging Peter for a couple years.
