Joan Guzman is one of the biggest waste of talent over the past decade. He was the ultimate package way back at 122, speed, power, athleticism, skills, everything, but motivational and weight issues messed up his career. He had the chance to become a FW champion but the Harrison saga prevented it, a lightweight champ but weight issues appeared once more, and if he still had the kind of skills, a LWW title wouldn't be out of reach but I think it's too late. He had the potential to be a top P4P-er and a 5-division champ, but talent alone does not make you exceptional, potential is nothing without the right mindset, and to tell you the truth, the only one to blame is himself, so I can't feel sorry for him.

I'd say they were about even.

not really because taking those drugs to drop all that weight and draining all the way down just 24 hours before a 12 round fight will **** a guy up physically, while just coming in 9 lbs above the weight limit does nothing.

Then Ali Funeka should have came in overweight as well. If a guy can't make weight, he can't make it and should move on. The fight should have been at 140, which Funeka could have made if the story is correct that he was expecting to be 140 on the morning of the weigh in then boil down to 135 before the actual weigh in.

I'm not saying what Funeka did was right.

But if two guys are fighting and one of them just weighed in at 144 while the other had to drain like a mother****er and take drugs to make 135 the day before, you can tell who has the advantage in a 12 round fight.

He's only overrated on ESB because of those two Calzaghe-ites who used to swear that Joan was a boxing god.. along with Mijares.

What were those idiots names again??

Last I heard, he was claiming he had some kind of mitochondrial disorder or something that makes it so he can't lose weight. He says now that it's been disgnosed, he's getting treatment for it, but it will probably be a little while before he fights again. At this point, he's too old to make serious waves anyway. Sort of a waste of talent there.

it is true friend PH|LLA, that was the same Barrios that both, Pacquiao and Barreras eluded to face. However, Guzman made a tremendous figth beating a very hard-hitting Argentine, convincingly...

That is a great figth to see...

The latest now is that Guzman will fight Steve Forbes on October at 143. If he wins that, Golden Boy will try to match him with Andre Berto for Berto's WBC belt at welter.
