Substance abuse, a dispute involving a gun with a loved one, and inactivity are what destroyed his actual pro career, as far as I know.
A scumbag waste of talent, shot pregnant wife in stomach then last year I think attacked a 63 year old woman.Numerous other offences stabbed brother I believe If it was an animal you would put it down imo.
I live here near Pittsburgh. Watched one of his last local fights. I haven't heard anything about him even locally in awhile.
Spaddy was basically the white Broner outside of the ring, only probably worse. A piece of sh!t waste of life. Don't give me that "waste of talent" BS either. Spaddy's claim to fame was winning a sparring session over an outta shape Floyd. He was an EXTREMELY EXTREMELY protected champion, and against his best opponent, Leo Dorin, he lost by a mile and got a gift draw. What's funny is, he kept calling out Floyd at lightweight, until Floyd called his bluff and offered him the biggest payday of his career.... Spaddy turned it down. Guess he realized what Floyd would have done to him in a real fight. Spaddy was a fraud. Had one solid performance in his career, when he won the title over Cardona, but other than that... did nothing.
He was unbelievably protected. His team had ZERO interest at the time letting him get in with a Castillo, Floyd, Corrales, Casamayor, Lazcano, ect. He got TWO gifts actually, one over Dorin, and one over Victor Sosa. Any elite fighter would have thrashed him. I know a lot of posters here might be newbies to the sport, but trust me, we ALL knew during Spaddy's reign that he was a pretender. The whole boxing world knew. He wasn't thought of very highly, so don't try to revise history.
Who's revising history? I like the way he fought...I'd fight the same way. Slap and run. And I said he had no power. So we're good here.
The Dorin fight was actually pretty entertaining. Two guys with no power slugging it out for 12 rounds. Dorin won clear as day though, like 9-3. Spaddy getting a draw was one of the worst hometown decisions of the 2000s.
What other fights come together as absolute travesties from the 2000's? Does Santa Cruz/Casamayor qualify?
