Don't let what happens on the internet dissaude you.

In the real world, the vast majority of real boxing fans have never heard the term '*****' or '*******', nor do they spend time making up fake .gifs.

You missed the whole point of the post. It welcomes different opinions and intelligent debate.

Sadly FMJ himself is teh biggest culprit of this. It's not just the fans who are guilty

Those two threads talk about completely different things. This one is about discussing the sport of boxing without the BS and drama, the other was a stupid pointless rant about not appreciating boxers for their out of the ring antics and/or putrid styles...

I'm 100% in agreement with the original post of this thread, not one bit for the linked thread above.

Funny, all 10+ year old matches... There could have been great matches in the last 10 years, but boxers duck more and more... Boxing itself is degrading...

They're most often polar opposites. Hence, where the terms '*****' and such emerged from...

Or... Does the problem reside in the fact that there's so many people who don't love the sport of boxing and instead just have a mancrush on a particular fighter?

I think you're not seeing the elephant in the room, and what you're asking is not calling the elephant an elephant, instead of dealing/acknowledging the problem which is the elephant...

:good Points well taken. I am fine with calling an elephant an elephant; which is why I said anybody who throws out those terms "loosely." My problem is when somebody comes in here and calls a lion and elephant, if you know what I mean.

Every sport has regional and country allegiance boxing is not any different. Fans will be fans and they love their fighters and hate whoever attacks them. Some act childish when you dont agree with them or maybe is just their maturity level. I dont know the age of most posters here but i bet they majority are young.

I agree completlely, and like to consider myself a true fan. There are so many things about boxing and boxers that I admire, but this bull**** of a few idiots dominating the boards is just part of modern life. The guys I watch fights with all have their favorites, I have mine, but we all have an ebb and flow that doesn't sound childish. And, if anybody says something as dumb as "Calzaghe's and all time great," we toss him out of the house.
