What exactly does Pavlik bring that Calzaghe hasn't dealt with before?

The Pavlik fans will cry even more than the Lacy fans, as they have put him up on the pedastool of a local hero. Pavlik's like a Bruce Springsteen of boxing, solid, loving blue collar fanbase, but not really that talented compared to brilliant musicians.

They'll be crying all night, because Pavlik won't even make an account of himself, he'll be easily wiped out and then that's the end of it, Calzaghe will get little to no credit and will be appreciated long after he retires.

Please dont say power! Calzaghe has taken big super middleweight power from Eubanks, Reid, Lacy, Kessler and Byron Mitchell!

Bull****. Calzaghe may win but if he does, he'll know he has been in a fight for the three reasons I gave earlier.

    1. Has Calzaghe recently faced a better puncher than Pavlik? No.
    2. Has he recently fought a guy with a better workrate than his? No.
    3. Have any of his greatest wins come from fighting off the back foot? No.

Pavlik presents those problems for Calzaghe. I don't know if he can adjust to them. I aluded to this a few days ago and I'll mention it again. I think Enzo Calzaghe is such a hard headed person, I don't think he will try and get Calzghe to change his usual fight which could be disastrous for Joe. Look at how Enzo's gameplan worked for Maccarinelli against Haye or his other world champion, Gavin Rees against Andreas Kotelnik. He is not a masterful strategist. Neither of these guys changed in any way and because of that, they lost so decisively. I think both could have done better with a more effective gameplan.

Average-punching Taylor even nearly stopped Pavlik early not too long ago. Pavlik really hasn't improved much since that first fight. HBO made it seem like Pavlik executed some master boxing plan in the Taylor rematch and showed a new dimension, when all he did was show the same flaws he always does and win because of his workrate/stamina more than anything else. If anybody showed improvements in that fight, it was Taylor, who impressed me more than Pavlik despite losing. Also, the HBO crew was going on about how complete Pavlik is now when fighting against a C- level fighter, ignoring that he got hit flush by slow-ass Locket multiple times and showed punch variation against an opponent that any B level fighter would show impressive punch variation against. You can't miss Lockett with anything, especially when you're much bigger than him with a longer reach and he's letting you tee off on him. Anything other than a Calzaghe stoppage should be considered a surprise in this matchup.

:-( Yeah, I was the in-between one and now we have no impartial one at all, so I'm an extremist and you're some kind of an anti-hype zealot.

Reid was never a great puncher and neither was Eubank. Lacy was but didn't land **** on Calzaghe. Kessler is a hard hitter but not a better puncher than Pavlik. Same for Mitchell.

Pavlik hits harder than any of those guys. The thing that sticks in my mind is the girl shot BH dropped JC with? A Pavlik jab is harder than that punch. Also watch the tape, JC was hurt more than he said he was, look at his face, and body language. Hopkins should have jumped on him right then.

    Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

There is no single attribute Pavlik has that Joe has never faced. He has a nice combination of them though.

1 + 2 - Kessler. Whether he hits harder or has a better work rate I'm not sure, but it's close.

    3. I've seen you mention this a few times. I thought the general opinion is that Calzaghe is a counter-puncher.

Has Enzo Calzaghe made any statements after the Lockett fight?? I would think after that destruction that he wouldn't shoot his mouth of as much about Kelly Pavlik. Whether or not Lockett was anything more than a roll-over, he was still a talented boxer and was beaten badly in only 3 rounds. To say Kelly Pavlik's power would not be an issue in a fight with Calzaghe is absolute insanity. As Jack has stated above, Kelly Pavlik has a great workrate that can present problems. Having a workrate as such along with power like Kelly's presents a problem that can get another fighter hurt unless he is cautious of that. And being cautious may not help out so well with another fighter's punch output.

8, Lacy did land one or two decent shots and Kessler has great power (

What is your criteria for good power?

How do you know that Pavlik hits harder than Reid, Lacy, Mitchell, Kessler and Eubanks. These guys were bigger and had proven power at suppermiddle!

Pavlik has good power no doubt but he is no superman!
