What exactly is ''the world stage''?

I think it's a stage.... on the world.

 

Ricky Hatton could fight a gypsy and still get more tickets sold than a bout between Cotto & PBF so what's your point? It's obvious the luster of the sport has only grown or maintianed its popularity in the UK. It is true that the US houses a much larger percentage of people than the UK therefore housing a large number of individuals who for some reason or other don't care much for boxing or have other intrest that outweigh boxing such as American Football, Baseball, Basketball etc, etc.....still I'm not seeing you point.

 

I was at the fight and I can assure you that the MGM was not half empty. My definition of the world stage is that if you're fighting the best that the world has to offer then you're on it.

all significant fights and known throughout the world(and i'm not american)

The point is that in the UK alone, Benn / Eubank 2 was seen by many many more people than Pavlik / Tayor 2. You stated that you were sure that Pavlik / Tayor 2 was more available than Benn / Eubank 2 but that isn't true either. Benn / Eubank 2 was shown in Australia / Japan and other parts of Asia, possibly other areas too but I can't confirm that. If that fight wasn't on the world stage then not many are.

 

I dunno Arran, if a fight dosent take place at Wembly then the answer is no its not "world stage"

I don't know how true a statement that is, so I can't really put much emphasis on it....I guess the better question is where Americans given the same window of opportunity to view Benn/Eubank II as was given to Euro's wanting to watch Pavlik/Taylor II.

 

i think it's fair to say that both benn-eubank II and taylor-pavlik II were world events in their own rights.

what this forum needs is less nationalistic bull****, not more of it.

 

I think it was pointed out well that the US has the advantage in terms of watching fights from the UK .

As for a US audience for Benn / Eubank, why does that matter? The US is one country. In the UK alone it did 17m viewers! Add to that that it wa shown in australia, japan, other parts of asia and that is definately the world stage. Pavlik / Taylor 2 was small fry compared to it.
