What exactly is ''the world stage''?

Yes I understand that but this goes beyond time zones as I was not able to see the fight due to its lack of availability over in the states.

 

The US is only one country though!

The fight had a massive audience all over the world and was watched by far far more people than Pavlik / Taylor 2.

To say Pavlik / Taylor 2 is on more of a global stage than Benn / Eubank 2 is crazy.

 

Same holds true here in the states, there has been a slight increase in the exposure of fighters such as Abraham, Calz, Hatton, Kessler over the years but still I have yet to see more than clips (or one/two fights) of Mundine, Diz, Witter, Bute, etc, etc.....

Still with the recent progress of the networks the "world stage" term seems to trouble you to the point of madness....lol

 

Again its more of a matter of personal preference.....and of course the world is bigger than just the US but fact is the majority of fights of major signifigance are fought on US soil or by US based fighters....plus as Kirk mentioned a world title is just that a "world title" Pavlik vs Taylor II was for a world title therefore justifying the term "world stage"

 

Well if the titles where only american then why are non americans ranked within the organizations and correct if I'm wrong but Calz seems to love to sport his "American" straps....so to be honest with you "no" the belts are pretty much open for the best man to capture and hold on to regardless of their nationalistic origin.

That's merely your own personal view, total speculation both fighters would be viewed as top prospects nothing more nothing less. If you can give me a prime example of such a scenerio then I can place some validity on you post....if not then do us all a favor and cease perpetuation of hate.

 

Sure he was the US favourite, most any fighter that appeals to the masses would capture the support of their homeland. I for one would have liked him to win but he was outclassed and beaten to a pulp. Was Hatton the UK favorite going in against PBF?

The idea that a fighter has to fight in the United States to be seriously considered is obsolete in this age of speedy communication and international broadcasts. However, in the lightweight to heavyweight classes, most of the active fighters are Americans. In many cases, the top contenders are American and a non-American has to include their names on his fight resume to be seen internationally as a top contender or champion. Same as if he were a golfer or tennis player. This may change as world demographics change.
