He did what he needed to do which was get in there and go some rounds and stay sharp. Remember this guy had no fights in 05,6 rounds in 06 and 12 rounds in 07. He needed a fight vs a durable guy which Forbes is hes fought many tough guys and bigger fighters and never tasted canvas. Forbes is a defensive fighter and when has DLH ever looked flawless vs one of them like Hopkins,Sweet Pea,Mayweather ? It was the perfect tuneup for him and he looked solid he stayed loose during the latter rounds, kept his jab going. I dont see how hes so shot :huh I think he looks dam good his hands are still extremly fast and he had alittle bounce in his step something he has lacked recently. As far as the rematch goes Oscar did pretty dam well last May having been very inactive and having the worst trainer for him. Freddie Roach was so quiet in the corner and it was obvious him and Oscar has no chemistry. Floyd Sr and Oscar are comfertable together and Sr knows Floyd Jrs style well and will help Oscar. Oscars active while Floyd is making a dam near clear hes only fighting for the paydays that why he will only fight Oscar. Oscar wins the rematch by SD but come on nuthuggers and haters who say Oscar will get hurt Gatti style or KOed :rofl
I agree and I'd like to see him take on another fighter, just a notch above Forbes level - maybe take Hatton at 147 before taking Floyd again, get him back into winning against world recognised opponents.
I wont disagree there but with or without DLH in the picture Floyd aint fighting Cotto and I know thats what your thinking about.
DLH worked the jab very well, but if you're a DLH fan who is looking for positives out of this performance to roll into the Mayweather rematch.....I did'nt really see any last night. The thing that DLH himself was dissapointed with last night, was that his good connects with the jab did'nt set up any openings to hit Forbes clean with power connects. Forbes did very well to roll from and avoid DLH's power. .....that is what should be of concern to DLH and his fans.....if he could'nt do anything to create openings using a jab that was landing on Forbes, what would be expected going up against Mayweather who is several notches above the level of Forbes? If I'm DLH, I'd be really concerned about this issue. ....and the Mayweather fight is being talked about taking place at 147 lbs..... ......if that is the case, the Forbes fight right here makes a strong case that DLH is going to get embarrassed by Mayweather Jr.
Thats not true errsta. What did you see from DLH that you think he could do better the second time around vs Mayweather? .....and do you agree that the fight taking place at 147 lbs will only benefit Mayweather?
Im sorry I just cant see this embarrsment coming in September. If Oscar does what he did last May for 12 rounds instead of 8 he could win this fight. Oscar DLH has never been embarrsed and Floyd isnt the kind of fighter to do it.
The problem is everyone is still angry about the Floyd-Cotto fight not happening. It's just not gonna happen, people need to get over it. Now DLH in the picture means he will either loose to Floyd and people have to wait longer for the Cotto fight or he will win and fight Cotto himself (unless Cotto would prefer to fight a defeated Floyd.) I actually stopped caring about this as I know a rematch with Hatton is more likely than Floyd fighting Cotto. As to DLH, he looked good. Fighting a very much live opponent with great defence and elusive skills made it worth my while. I was expecting a Cotto/Gomez execution.
Yeah, but he locked up Forbes through much of the fight. If he could keep Mayweather locked up with the jab he could win. Many fights have been won with nothing but a jab.
The first DLH-Mayweather fight took place at 154 lbs for DLH's title...... ....in that fight it was the much smaller Mayweather who was able to move DLH and shake him up with his shots to both the head and body. ......you dont think that if the fight now, well over a year later with DLH not only older, but fighting at a weight he has'nt been at for years (147 lbs)...... .....you dont think that would set up a scenario that would benefit Mayweather and possibly embarrass DLH?
Im glad someone else besides myself is facing the truth. Floyd-Cotto just isnt going to happen. Floyds hoping Margarito KOs Cotto which is possible or Oscar beats Cotto which is also possible or its possible Floyd loses to Oscar and tries to fight Cotto to regain respect but hed probablly cry for a trilogy or retire. If Floyd beats Oscar which I dont think he will I expect him to either fight Hatton agian if Hatton beats Paulie or fight Mosley-Judah winner 2 fights he sees a good money and easy work for him.
Nothing and Yes. The truth is there is no opponnent out there enough like Mayweather for me to determine that anyway. This was very much a "stay busy" fight. The only questions people have about DLH-Mayweather I are usually 1) Why did Oscar abandon the jab? and 2) What if Oscar didn't gas after 9 rounds or so? Last night he stuck with his jab and finished strong. That's a perfect set up for the rematch. From a promotional standpoint, of course. Realistically Mayweather will win again. The rematch will be more one sided than the original. Oscar's ability to finish strong against Forbes says nothing of how he will finish against Floyd.
Well I cant see them fighting at 147. Agian I dont see a embarrasment happening. I dont think Oscars lost a step since the last fight infact he might even be better considering hes active and actually went a full 12. Man he had exactly 6 rounds in the 2 previous calender years before fighting Floyd last year. It was close last year and I expect it agian Oscars got too much talent and skill to embarrass. Oscar isnt Ricky Hatton,Baldomir or Arturo Gatti.
Jimmie, do you work for Golden Boy Promotions? Why are you trying to sell us on this fight, that most boxing fans do not want to see?
