I agree. Man, can you imagine the insane buildup and anticipation to a fight between '67 Ali and '88 Tyson? I think I would lose my mind with excitement before the fight even started lol

Juan Manuel at Light. That performance against Casamayor, even though he was 35 had me wondering. He's seasoned, similarly sized, and could probably compete technically with any LW ever.

Gavilan/Duran is a good one -I think that we had a thread on that one.

Marquez is superb technically. Not mobile enough at lightweight to deal with Duran's attacks though IMO. Too flat-footed and stationary compared to his featherweight days when he was nimble on his toes.

You may be right, although against Casamayor he was looking to angle on the perimeter and counter. I think that fighting with unnecessary movement or on his toes would have been inefficient in that fight. Casamayor leaves lots of windows open, and thus opportunities.

I don't think that movement is as problematic for lightweight Duran as is a strong counter puncher -which Marquez is. Of course, we agree that post 1980 Duran had real problems with mobility.

I think Marquez is a brilliant fighter...He and Beristain are a great team. I have to say I consider Marquez a great fighter. Haven't really thought about him versus a Duran, but I've wondered on his chances against Mayweather at 130/135.
Casamayor came in mean, and in shape against Marquez...It was quite a statement. Casamayor is a very problematic, skillful fighter against anyone in and around 135.

ya it would be crazy. Think if it happened today.. imagine what the 24/7 shows and the press conferences would be like. It'd easily be the highest grossing fight of all time. Man.. too bad we'll never see it.
