A comment on a thread I just replied on got me thinking about the fight that first got me hooked on boxing. Frank Bruno's first fight with Mike Tyson in 1989 had me up listening to my radio (fake sony walkman!) in the middle of the night. I cant really remember if it was Bruno or Tyson that attracted me to the fight but I remember wanting Big Frank to win and being truly gutted when he lost.
I wanted Bruno to get smashed up, I knew even as a young laddie what a tit the man was. for me it was Hagler-Leonard.
From Lewis-Holyfield I was paying attention and then when Lewis fought Rahman the second time I started watching all the fights I could.
I'm another one who got interested at the time of Bruno - Tyson II Hamed and Lewis then furthered my interest.
Tyson Bruno II is the earliest fight I remember watching. Went to my uncles at god knows what time with my dad.
i followed the royal oak terry lawless stable of fighters and it was charlie magri rise through the rankings, being that he was famous in my area at the time and we all talked about him in school that got me into boxing. no specific fight that i remember . i aslo remember watching the 1978 commonwealth games boxing and following the careers of the fighters i saw on there.
