Fight Night in the late 80's / early 90's was superb too - I think that's what they called it anyway - it may actually be 'seconds out' I'm talking about, my memory is awful The show I'm talking about had lots of early Benn, Jorge Paez, early De La Hoya fights...
Mine was Ali Spinks 1. I knew of Ali but had never seen any of his fights. I was absolutely shattered when he lost. After he won the rematch, the true theatre and amazing razamataz of a huge fight had me hooked. I cried when Barry Mac lost to Steve Cruz.
Hmmm lol 2006, being honest Khan then Calzaghe then hatton, then a fan of british boxing, friday fight night on sky, then the odd fight in america and now i watch every fight i can here and all over the world.
Nothing wrong with that, I reckon the exposure that Khan got at and after the last Olympics will have brought many new fans to the sport. Its good that you have gotten interested in the overseas fights as well though.
This fight was my first big British dissapointment after I started following boxing. I remember being totally hacked off when he lost. If this fight had been in the UK (or anywhere that wasn't 100 in the shade) Barry would have easily chinned Cruiz
Well he does hold one claim to fame, he broke the British Super Featherweight jinx, being the first champ to successfully defend his title at the weight, since it was reestablished.
Probaly didnt earn enough to be a full time fighter - probaly had a day job as well. Fought Steve Robinson twice - Lost to him and beat him in the rematch - before Robinson went on to become WBO World Featherweight Champion. He lost his British Super Featherweight title to Floyd Havard. Funny that - Floyd Havard was training at the gym behind my back garden then too - in the same gym Colin Jones was from. The same man Gareth Bevan who trained Colin Jones as a amateur was training Floyd Havard too. Bevan ran the amateur gym behind my back garden for over 40 years until he reitred a few years ago In his final fight Haddock had a shot at the European Super Featherweight title but was stopped. Floyd Havard fought John John Molina for the World title but was stopped - the same Molina who gave Oscar De La Hoya a tough fight. Neil Haddock Pro Record: 14 Wins 11 Losses 1 Draw (6 KO's)
Klitschko - Ibragimov really got me into boxing - an all time classic that we'll be watching in years to come Seriously though, Bruno Tyson II was the first fight I remember really getting excited about - listening on the radio.
for me it was Lewis vs Holyfield 1 which was my first ppv i ordered from then on i was hooked on the sport as i hate football and although i watched a few classics previous to that fight it was lennox that got me right in to it from there on i followed and still do all the wieght classes and have seen about a zillion ppv's since then . once you start following boxing theres so much to soak up what with all the weight classes and then you've got to learn the history and linage of the sport its great , the only problem is every one i know is a football lover or a very casual boxing fan and the coverage in the british papers is bleak at best.
