If anyone's comfortable sharing, recent or a classic bout, what fight brings out the most emotion from you? Maybe connected to a memory, or the fight itself representing something significant. For me, Fury v Wilder III was the first heavyweight title fight I ever saw live. I stayed up til midnight watching it with my girlfriend, we watched the entire card. Not only was it the first live fight for me but her too and that was a real special memory to be able to share. A fight full of heart and an instant classic, that was a night I wouldn't trade for anything.
At the top of my list would be Pavlik-Taylor I. I had been telling everyone I knew that The Ghost was a force to be reckoned with. When Kelly got brutally dropped and looked to be in big trouble, all in the room looked as me as if to say, "We told you so." I had faith in Pavlik, however, and knew he would recover. The gradual beatdown and finishing combination he put on Taylor were sights to behold. At that moment, the underdog from Youngstown became my favorite active fighter in the sport and my love for boxing was at an all-time high. But, alas, dark times laid ahead.
Nice post mate, for me it's got to be Jeff Harding v Dennis Andries 1, Kostya Tszyu- Zab Judah or Holy-Tyson 1. I bet on Holyfield and had been telling everybody over and over that Holy would beat him.
I can't remember the exact fight but it was probably when Tyson Fury returned after being stripped of his belt. I watched a lot of Fury's videos and he talked a lot about dealing with mental health issues and gaining weight and falling off track due to depression and feeling hopeless. So to see him return and bounce back from mental health problems was a really emotional experience. I think it was when he fought Wilder
For me it has to be Tyson-Douglas. I remember being a little kid going with my parents to a fight party, sitting on the couch fascinated by these guys on tv beating eachother up with gloves on! I fell in love with the sport instantly.
Marveling at a magician like Loma perform his magic tricks and cast his spells and exhibit a level of technical wizardry and skill so effortlessly and seamlessly that no one else in the sport can match is next level boxing and a joy to behold. The way he works the body is sublime This content is protected This content is protected
The two things that get to me the most when it comes to boxing, is either an old warrior pulling out one last victory of some young punk everyone thinks will beat him. Or the sheer emotion I feel when watching two guys, who want the win so bad, they just get in a trance like war zone, and leave everything in the ring, their blood, sweat, tears, heart and soul. If I had to pick a few matches that get me emotional, they'd be... Kovalev beating Eleider Alvarez in the rematch. Donaire KOing Oubaali and winning a title at 38. Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto. James Toney vs. Vassiliy Jirov. Mickey Ward vs. Arturo Gatti I Gvozdyk KOing Stevenson (I didn't realize how bad it was at the time). Usyk dominating Joshua. Naoya Inoue vs. Nonito Donaire. Sergio Martinez coming back and beating Jose Miguel Fandino. Antonio Margarito coming back and beating Jorge Paez Jr. Carl Froch silencing the critics, and brutally KOing Groves. Pitufo Diaz laying it on the line late against Navarrete. Pacquiao beating Keith Thurman at 40. Wlad going down in a blaze of glory against AJ. Crimson masked Kelly Pavlik still coming forward against Maravilla.
Oscar De La Hoya vs Fernando Vargas my two favorite fighters at that time, a house divided over them. Me rooting for De La Hoya while the rest of my family rooting for Vargas. Back and forth see saw fight with each fighter taking turns trading rounds, showcasing their skill and talent, until De La Hoya caught Vargas with his signature combination punctuated with his signature left hook that hurt Vargas and KO the next round. A great night of boxing.
I cry at the end of Hagler vs Mugabi. Every time. Marvelous asks Bernstien "would you miss me if i hung em' up?" Bernstein ignores Marvelous. Ignores his pleading eyes. **** Bernstein. What a selfish cocksucker.
I derived a great deal of pleasure from watching Bivol beat Clenelo, especially the moment the decision was announced, knowing justice had been served and even though they wanted to they couldn't and didn't rob him and also from seeing the look of sheer joy and exhilaration on one of the sport's nicest and most humble fighters Bivol's face as it slowly dawned on him what he had achieved and how much this win was going to change the lives of him and his family. And the fact that prior to then his highest purse was £500,000 and he was earning a lot less than Plant, Smith and BJS 2.0 did when they fought Clenelo - his guaranteed purse was just $2 mill, estimated to top out at $5 mill after his split from the P4P though, when Plant's guaranteed purse was $10 mill with his split of the PPV on top of that too, and him having to come in first, and the way he'd been treated and disrespected and completely written off by so many and not given a chance made it that much sweeter. Joshua vs Ruiz Jr 1. Who would've guessed AJ would've been knocked down 4 times by a fat boxer and then get TKOd in the end? I had felt sorry for him. I still hate that 3rd round.
