I think the last scheduled 15 round fights were around 1987, or there abouts. Does anyone know for sure which bout was officially thee last and final 15 rounder? Who was it between?

Jorge Paez-Calvin Grove was the last 15 round title fight I believe but I don't know what the last official fight was.

There were one or two all the way though to the mid 90s...

My memory will come back in a minute, and I will telly you who it involved.

A couple of IBO title fights from 1993 were 15 rounders (Pazienza/Sherry and Boyle/Strum)

But I am sure there are some even later.

    Thanks,
Thats pretty bizarre given that the major world sanctioning bodies such as the IBF, WBC and WBA had all discontinued the practice of 15 round fights by the late 80's.

I'd be interested to see what info you come up with.

  5. I think one of the last was a exhibition in Japan? in 1997. can't remember no more details though sorry.

The last title fight that was scheduled for 15 was McGrit-Davis...of course, it ended in the first round.

My 1957 Ring Record Book and Boxing Encylopedia says the last 20 rounder to go the distance was Max Baer W 20 King Levinski, Reno, Nevada, July 4, 1932.

The most recent one scheduled for 20 rounds up to that time was Bobby Woods KO 15 Henry Davis, Boise, Idaho, June 9, 1954. (That is if Fleischer's information is accurate.)

I believe (according to the Guinness Book of Records) there is one from the early 70s, I will look it up.

Please do that. This would be interesting to know for sure.

In the early 1980's, Pat O'Grady tried to engineer a 20 rounder for his newly formed vacant WAA (or what "Flash" Gordon called, "The WA-O'Grady") HW Title between Monte Masters and Tony Fuliangi, but it was disallowed, and they competed for it in a scheduled 15 rounder. (This was won by Masters in 14 rounds, a title he was stripped of for divorcing O'Grady's daughter! Oh well. At least Pat had a "good" reason for doing it, not like the convoluted rationalizations the other governing bodies cite for some of their actions!:nut)
