What fighter could teach a masterclass in how to topple giants?

How could anyone buy his invincibility after Liston who wasn’t all that, he beat up on guys who didn’t stand a chance. No one in the boxing world thought they had a shot. Muhammad Ali is a tough guy but full of parlour tricks. Look at his fights leading up to FOTC and tell me you see a great force to be reckoned with.

 

I came on here to mention this. He treated Primo Carnera, Abe Simon and Buddy Baer very inhospitably.

 

In terms of getting upsetd against guys of higher status Soldier Bardfield deserves mentioned.

 

To such a question, I always think Langford, Dempsey and Louis. As if they were purpose built and specifically trained for taking down super sized opposition - a highly elite unit of specialised assassins. Would love to see more film on the former two fighters but at least we have what we have.

I don't know if this is relevant to the OP, but back in the '60s there was an imposing figure named James J. Beattie, who stood 6'9.5" and was making a bit of noise until running into NY heavyweight James J. Woody, who stood all of 6'0". Woody handled him, which threw a wrench in the works for the machine pushing Beattie and his novelty act. So they rematched and this time Woody stopped him. In the ensuing years Woody also beat the 6'4" Tony Doyle 3 times and the 6'4" Dante Cane. Now you may say that, "hey, they were all journeymen." But then again, so was Woody, and he looked like he had the goods on these giants.
