Seeing the Chavez/Taylor legendary nights when I was a kid and reading my dads old ring magazines and boxing books made me very interested in the sport as a youngin. That casual interest changed when Hatton fought Mayweather which seemed to me to be a massive fight and really made me start following boxing properly.
Look left. Though when I was a little kid, and a casual fan into my teens, it was Tyson. And where I'm from Hagler is an especially big legend, so I was blessedly aware of him.
Always liked it from an early age. Frank Bruno used to be my hero when I was little. Didn't properly start following it until I saw Khan in the Olympics and then they started showing all his fights on ITV. Then I discovered the likes of Tommy Hearns and was hooked. Funnily enough, now I want Khan to lose.
I'm like that with Pacquiao, gone right off him with the whole Mayweather saga (not saying Mayweather has been blameless either) and I'm still pissed off that I got done out of £500 by Manny getting a gift against Marquez in his last fight.
Went to my first fight when I was 14 which was Haye v Macca but a few months before it was the Hatton Mayweather hype that got me into it. Since then been abroad twice to fights and love everything about the sport.
Damn, how much did you put on Marquez and with what odds? That's one of the biggest robberies I've ever seen in the sport, mainly because of the importance of the fight.
The first fight I remember was Ali/SpinksII... And I would love to answer Ali, but sadly it was my hometown hero Alan Minter...
Tyson and Christopher Livingstone Eubanks were the one who moved it on from a general interest to a real love of the sport. Then Naz landed, local lad, exciting, unorthodox, it was impossible not to be swept up in that. No looking back since, but I've still not seen anyone who creates that buzz or who's fights I look forward to like I did with Naz. Just keep waiting for the next young fighter to come through who's young, English, fearless and something a bit special who as exciting to watch as Naz. I could be waiting a while.
Had £50 on Marquez at 9/1, thought that Pacquiao had seriously declined since the Cotto fight (think the Margarito fight took a hell of a lot out of him especially) and the odds against Marquez were ridiculous given his style being a nightmare for Pacquiao. When it was announced Pacquiao had won I felt like crying, had the money pretty much spent.
Started getting into boxing around 2006/2007, Bernard Dunne was fighting Esham Pickering for the European title on RTE and Amir Khan was on ITV. I think seeing Graham Earl fight Michael Katsidis really got my hooked
