This is silly. How can Ricardo Mayorga have zero boxing talent? Granted he ain't Floyd Mayweather, but the man nearly unified the welterweight division in 3 fights.

these guys that you are all listing- like mayorga, gatti, hatton- they have world class talent! - they just couldnt beat perhaps 5 guys in the world who were superior! - but to get where they were- imagine how many sparring partners, amateur fighters, club fighters, low rank pros, journeymen, seasoned pros, contenders and world champs they ve all beaten to get to where they are- people they have outboxed, outfought and out-talented to get to the ultimate level where they can get their head pummeled in by a once in a lifetime fighter like mayweather- and for internet guys like us to say- "oh - they have no talent".........you guys are ****in harsh man...these internet boards **** me off- cos we bag on every single fighter in the game- without giving any of them any respect. come on- no one here is half as hard as these guys, nor half as successful or talented at boxing. we might live thru these guys- but there is no need to hate thru them as well ya'll.....

if any of you have even sparred once in your lives with just say an average club fighter - you d know how talented these guys are. i thought the same thing once- that i d walk into a gym and be manny pacquaiao. i sparred with the regions amateur champion who had recently been knocked out 3 times out of his last 6 and was retiring from the sport to train. now im a good athete- better than good- ive played representative basketball, squash, golf and soccer for my district. i thought it would be easy work. i couldnt believe how badly i got smashed . his speed, reflexes, and talent- yes talent- were all tuned to fighting. every instinct was nurtured to fighting and boxing. i was more than impressed. he had sparred people like zab judah , and emanual augustus in the past- so he was seasoned- but his talent was off the charts. and yet here he was- a gym bum. but compared to the average guy - his skills and talent were amazing. so imagine someone like gatti- who has risen up past all these guys!? how talented he would have had to have been.

there are 3 things that contriubute to success- LUCK - TALENT- and HARD WORK-= there is no way you can make it with out ALL three. and believe me- if your a world class fighter- you already are successful- and you have all three factors already in your life.

Gatti is defenitely one of them. I'm a fan of his but he can easily be outboxed.

John Ruiz- punch and hold work for him for a while and won titles

Vic Darchinyan- so far he is having a good career. 2 division champ

Micky Ward looked athletic enough to me. Terrific left hook to the body too - that was a talent in itself

All top level fighters are talented to some degree.

It's not like these dudes are bums like zelenoff or hartley.

Man about 80 to 90% of the posts on this thread are full of ****! I heard Mayorgas name mentioned alot here and that man has natural talent! He hits hard as hell which is a NATURAL TALENT! Also of all the pro fighters around Ill bet you Mayorga would kick some serious ass in a street fight without using all the skills he learned in the ring, which mean this guy has talent.
I can agree with guys mentioned like Ruiz,Baldomir,Woods and one guy who wasnt mentioned David Diaz. Guys that arent punchers, fast and just dont look to Good but had enough to win world Titles. Julio Gonzalez is another one.

it would be very surprising for a fighter to have no real talent but be successful. I would think a brawler maybe if anyone, but even then a brawler usually hits more than he is hit, so he is doing something right. Someone with all heart, but then is heart a talent? Don't some people do have more heart than others.

imo Ricardo is an exception to a lot of fighters...I dont recall any fighter making it as far as he did with that little bit of boxing skills...I'm not saying he has zero skills but the way he throws his punches is mos def not something he learned in the boxing gym...

Baldomir has made the most out of what he has, which imho is just a very ordinary level of physical talent. Ruiz has had the most succesful career of any boxer EVER with his level of 'talent' by taking the talent factor out of the fight entirely with his holding.

Mayorga has talent. He had crushing power at 147 and a cast iron chin, and you're either born with those things or you'll never have them. That definitely qualifies as talent. Mayorga gets a pretty bad rap, but when he was at his proper weight class he was pretty ****ing scary. He punched in combinations, saw punches coming pretty well, could get you out of there with one shot from either hand... he was no joke.
