tyson was a big favourite for almost his first fifty fights... foreman wasn't favoured to beat frazier. sure, once he did, he seemed to acquire that fear factor. but until that point, rightly or wrongly, people thought he'd beaten up a load of tomato cans. tyson was considered, again rightly or wrongly, the next great heavyweight pretty much from his debut.

so it depends whether you mean who was considered more unstoppable at a specific point in time (in which case you're effectively asking who was the most overwhelming favourite for a given fight) or who was considered more unstoppable for a longer period of time. foreman was favoured to beat ali, which was arguably more of a big deal than tyson beaing favoured over douglas by a larger margin. but foreman's aura had just been born and had less momentum than tyson's, which had been growing for five years.

strange to include roy jones here, as he wasn't 'trapped' in one weight class in the same way... put it like this, no one thought that jones would lose to anyone he chose to step in the ring with.

fair enough. that's not how i remember it, but ok.

regardless, you'd agree that he was considered a potential great a good twenty fights earlier than foreman was?

I voted Tyson just ahead of Foreman because he never had a guy like Muhammad Ali to contend with to keep his unbeaten run going, even tho George was favourite vs Ali you still had to say Tyson`s odds of remaining unbeaten were greater than George`s.

Jones, despite looking untouchable, was 34 when he lost, not 24 or 25 like Tyson & Foreman so it was less shocking - at least to me.

Mike Tyson seemed unstoppable. before the Douglas loss.
Roy Jones was always highly critiqued because of the level of competition he fought.
George Foreman, I wasn't even born when he fought...who knows what the consensus was back then.

Mike Tyson looked like **** against Tillis. I just can't get that fight out of my head anytime someone tells me Tyson in 86 was unstoppable.
