What fighter was the hardest to outpoint?

Tunney was the one that caught my eye....

 

Ali, Holmes, Lewis and Wlad is who i picked.

 

Marciano and Frazier had struggles, sure, but so did every other fighter on your list- being behind in a fight is much different from losing. A fighter can be relatively easy to gather a short-term lead against, but very hard to actually outpoint, as is the case with both of these men.

 

Well if you want to go by the second Barkley fight for proof that PEAK Hearns could be outpointed then i'm afraid there's not much i can do for you on this one.

 

Peak muhammed ali at heavy,and of course peak thomas hearns....
The second barkley fight was well past hearns peak weight and age,hearns peak was 147-154,even at 160 i dont see anyone outpointing him ...

 

Has to be Ali. A hard enough task in itself but when you have two of the judges battling againts you too, it's nigh on impossible. Some examples:



Jimmy Young was not given a round until the 11th in their fight by one judge (the ref). :yikes

The 6-1 lead he held on the card of Mercante (I think?) in the 2nd Patterson fight. :-(


The judge that had him even vs Ron Lyle, winning rounds for standing still. atsch


One judge had him beating Norton in San Diego. :huh




In a nutshell, when people go on about Willi Pep winning a round without throwing a punch (vs Graves) we're not sure if the myth is true. However, watching some of Ali's fights, of which I have all that are available (as far as I know). I can safely say that Ali won many a round without throwing a punch. :good

Well if you are going to be perdantic about it; Barkley's 168lbs prime will always cause Tommy's 147-154 prime; an almighty headache...

Holmes outboxed Ali too, little doubt you'd count that as well.

 

I remember the sad feeling I had when I arose one Sunday morning to the teletext headline: "Barkley beats Hearns again". I just wasn't expecting it. :-(
