The word "HYPEJOB" kind of exploded onto the scene about 7-10 years ago with the wave of Boxing Websites, On-line streeeaaams, HBO, Showtime and Youtube. In fact, if you ask a fightfan: Who's the hottest young prospect "out there?"...he'll tell you about some talented 16,17,18 year old kid that is either still an amateur or only has a handful of Pro fights, because he has seen him on some streeaam, youtube or HBO and Showtime has been talking about him. And eventually one of the Big Promotions "BIG-WIGS" will sign him and force him "down our throats" as the "NEXT SUPERSTAR"...BLAH BLAH BLAH.

So it got me thinking, what fighters burst onto the scene by solely defeating a HYPEJOB and haven't **** since. 3 fighters came to mind, but I am quite sure there are FAR MORE.

    1. Chris "The Nightmare Arreola - How soon we forget. HBO had a telecast that matched "little known" Arreola against a fighter that was a multiple golden glove winner from Philadelphia and nephew of a really good Heavyweight "back n da' day"..."Terrible" Tim Witherspoon (former NABA, USBA and WBA titlist in the 80's) and was supposed to be the "Next Great American Heavyweight" Chazz Witherspoon. Well, Witherspoon turned out to be a BUST...Arreola dismantled him easily. So now guess who decided to jump of the Arreola Bandwagon...HBO. They gave Arreola handful of fights so he can look good including a 39 year old Jameel Mcline. And just when they thought he was "ready"...he got OUTBOXED BY A KLITCHKO...REALLY? Then they gave him a comeback fight against Brian Minto that looked like a toughman contest between two overweight and out-of-shape insurance salesmen. And then at 250lbs he lost to a former Light-heavyweight Adamek.

    2. Marcos Maidana
    - Does anyone even realize that GBP went half-way around the globe trying to find the perfect fighter to place in the ring to make their fighter (Victor Ortiz) look good. They (GBP representatives) were in attendance in Germany to see Maidana get OUTBOXED by Ketolnik and just knew that a fast, athletic southpaw with pop like Ortiz would win easy on HBO and continue the HYPE. Well for about 3 rounds it was all going to plan...but a funny thing happened along the way. Ortiz got exposed has having NO DEFENSE, NO STAMINA AND MOST IMPORTANTLY...NO HEART. Now all of a sudden, people think Marcos Maidana is the real Deal.:-(

    3. Carlos Quintana - I struggled w in a with the decision to place Quintana on this list solely because of his victory of Paul Williams. But I'll get back to that in a second. Does anyone remember when Joel Julio came to America from Colombia with this reputation as a "BIG PUNCHER". He was undefeated KOing any and everyone he faced. Then when he faced Quintana he got OUTBOXED badly. It really looked like a Pro vs an Amateur. Then everytime Quintana stepped up in class...he didn't just lose...he hets destroyed...Cotto, Williams and Berto. Now let's go back to Quintana's win of Williams. A good win for Quintana. If Carlos was the fighter everyone thinks he his based on his victory over Williams...Then he shouldn't be getting BLOWN-AWAY against Cotto, Williams (rematch) and Berto.

I know there are more...SOUND OFF.

Devon Alexander is the epitome of this. He has literally one good win over a fighter who is vastly overrated and only got so many chances because he looked formidable.

    That's it.

Before that, I'd say Breidis Presscot and his conqueror, Kevin Mitchell. Both were overrated wins. Presscot became this supposed knockout artist and Mitchell became a skilled boxer, both of which are false.

Devon has a vast amateur experience and an incredible record, he's got immensely fast hands mixed with the ability to box and one who can actually crack.

He also wants to fight the best to prove he's the best.

In short, you can't dislike this guy, he's the complete package... with him having both his feet firmly set on earth I see a very very bright future for him.
