That's the biggest falsehood in this thread. Ward wanted nothing more than to beat the brakes off GGG.

Marvin Hagler fought anyone who challenged him.

Amir Khan. Say what you will about him, but he’s not scared to fight anyone. I think he’d fight a heavyweight if he had the opportunity.

He did not say hello from 2012 to 2016, when GGG called him out. Ward rather commentated his fights on HBO, then he fought Rodriguez. Afterwards he moved up to 175. Then he called GGG out when the Lemieux fight was signed and GGG stated he stays at 160 (for the big potential Canelo fight, where he earned more than Ward in his whole career).

    More GGG/Ward chat please guys.

Relating to OP, I think Gabe Rosado fits that mold, though not a top level operator.

Plenty of fighters have good opposition and lost but over the last 3 years here are some stats according to the IWBR.
19 fighters have defeated a fighter that was previously number 1
159 fighters have defeated a fighter that was previously ranked within the independent top 10
Lomo has the best 3 year CV by miles, he has defeated 3 previous number 1s.
Usyk is pretty good, Wasil is good, Ken Shiro then Crawford would be the top 5
Joshua has fought 4 top 10 fights.
Pretty ropey when you look at some main fighters have not defeated more than 1 genuine top 10 fighter in 3 years.

At 160. Mr Spinks may disagree with your statement.

    Good call.

Guys like Everett Martin are probably p4p using the current criteria. They never had a chance but faced a literal murderer's row for lunch money.

    Check this out:

5'11, 72 inch reach. The dude was probably small for cruiser.

    http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/1788

    He faced:

    Cooper
    Du Plooy
    Qawi
    Foreman
    Mason
    Coetzer
    Damiani
    Smith
    Moorer
    Bowe
    Witherspoon
    Tucker
    Holmes
    Hide
    Tubbs
    Wlad x2
    Brewster
    Oquendo
    Hipp
    Bostice
    Hoffmann
    Liakhovish
    Sosonwski
    Chagaev

This dude needs a ****ing golden statue in a plaza somewhere because he never had a hope in these fights and yet still took them. They'd probably have a tough time finding enough gold for his giant balls though.

Has been avoiding Kell Brook for years.

Froch publicy ducked GGG despite having a significant size advantage.
