What fighters of the past 30 years could beat Pacquiao in a firefight?

    Nazarov was an interesting fighter.

Him and Arbachakov both were trained by the same trainer Zimin in Japan.

If I'm not mistaken I even remember seeing him in one of monthly Ring P4P ratings - although I'm not sure if I'm not confusing him with Yuri.

Pity his prime didn't last long and he didn't get the chance to fight other champions.

Oscar vs Nazarov would have been an interesting fight.

How many on here would favour a prime Taylor at 140lb, his superior speed and ability to beat Pacquaio to the punch would cause Manny a hell of a lot of problems

You'd need a guy with a good combo of power, strength and durability.

Having a big punch is not enough against Pac.

FOr this reason I'd favour him against big hitters lacking in heart (e.g. Pineda, R. Mayweather) or lacking in durability (Rosario, Corrales, Bramble, Pendleton, Fenech).

Some would probably be a tad too incompetent to get the job done as far as skills go despite being tough as nails (i.e. Ramirez, Castillo, Laporte, MAG)

I think there's probably too many that would just have too many advantages over him at 147 to name, but below that weight, I think I would favour the following small group:

    Azumah Nelson
    Sal Sanchez
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Aaron Pryor
DLH (probably only at 140, at 135 it probably becomes a 50:50)

    Guys that would be 50:50

    Frankie Randall
Post 82 version of Arguello (vs. Pryor I - thereafter Pac would blow him out)
    Kostya Tszyu
    Meldrick Taylor
    Shane Mosley

Can't think of any more off the top of my head, will list more if I dredge someone else up....

The only fights Morales had at 135, 140 or 147 occurred when he was well past his best. You think the EM that lost to David Diaz could beat Pacquiao, even though Pac had already wiped him out twice not long before?

Not such an interesting comment unless you list them and explain why?

Duran never fought at 135 within the last 30 years.

130lbs is not one of the weight classes under discussion.

I doubt Hearns would try to fight Pac, I think he'd box him. If he tasted Pac's power, he'd quickly revert back to boxing, where he'd hold all the advantages.

Mosley at 135 is the most interesting one to consider, of the ones you have highlighted.

Mosley at 147 (circa ODLH fight in 2000) is one of the only guys I think could do it.

This thread is turning into an exercise in how to not read the opening post and turn in invalid answers.

Apologies, I had a couple of featherweights listed too...

As far as welterweights go, some that I think would turn the trick:

    Jose Luis Lopez
    Aaron Davis
    Felix Trinidad
    Ike Quartey
    Simon Brown
    Oscar DLH

    Arguables:
    Shane Mosley
    Vernon Forrest
    Bricked-up Margarito
    Lloyd Honeyghan
Donald Curry (i'm not as sold on Curry's fortitude as others are, even at his peak)
    Colin Jones

Pop, whilst we're talking about Pac, what was your take on the Bradley fight?

IMO Pac looked pretty bad compared to a few years back...

He's definitely on the other side of the hill now...

@ 147 , Paul Williams wouldn't have been a firefight , it would have been 1sided . And this assuming Williams slugs and not boxes .

I`ll stick to fighters I`ve seen a lot of at the weights asked....

135 - Duran, Chavez, Arguello, Mosely.

    140 - Chavez, Pryor.

147 - Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Trinidad, Mosely.

Morales wouldn`t beat pac at 135 or 140 tho, thats what was asked.

130 is the cutoff point for me between Morales & pacquiao... the best versions of each guy at the weight would have a razor close fight IMO (the pac from Morales 2 & 3 vs the Morales from Hernandez & pac 1)

pac wins any time at 135 & 140... Morales wins any time at 122 & 126.
