So who's next on your list? Which fighter or specific bouts do you plan to get around to next? I need some ideas, and might latch onto an idea here......

For now, I'm just spending some down time watching a lot of everything, from Dick Tiger to Giardello, attempting (again) to appreciate Saldivar, to some early 80's stuff I'd missed. What about you?

I just did this same thread (or very similar) last week....But to answer the question...I am amazed, overwhelmed and disappointed that I remain unschooled on many fighters.

This year I need to learn a little bit more about:
    1. Duilio Loi (almost total ignorance)
    2. Luis Manuel Rodriguez (not much outside of the Griffith fights)
    3. Gaspar Ortega
    4. Florintino Fernandez (little outside of their fights)
    5. Rubin Carter
    6. Nino Benvenuti -Just started watching more of his stuff.
    7. Jose Torres
    8. Sumbu kalambay Just started watching some of his fights.
    9. Dave Sands
    10. Rafael Herrera

Many, many more whom I have but a fleeting knowledge of. I love ESB classic forum as I have learned so much over the last 5 years....The most important thing being, the knowledge that I still have much to learn and don't know as much as I wished or sometimes state emphatically...LOL!

Sad as it is,the one good thing to come out of Carmen Basilio's death is that a pretty good number of his fights have popped up at once.I've seen a fair few of them, but not all in a short period of time, which is what I usually prefer when getting an assessment of a fighter.

And a possible re-run through Ray Leonard's career; just to remind myself that, yes,he was that brilliant.

Sal, if you want some quick fairly immediately impressive footage to watch of saldivar, i'd suggest the Sugar Ramos film.Brutal accuracy and combinations with little wasted motion against a talented physical powerhouse of a Featherweight.

As for boxing in 2013, i haven't got anyone particular in mind.More just a realisation i badly need to sort out my collection and achieve some semblance of order.

I am doing a comprehensive study of the fight career of Butterbean based solely on next day newspaper accounts.

Nothing specific. But i would like to learn more about lower weight fighters from the far east, pacific and beyond. People like Masao Ohba, Salavaria, Watanabe, Chionoi, Arbachakov etc.

Dave Shade. I've read quite a bit on him already. But I'd like to find some of the more obscure facts, quotes and anecdotes surrounding this phenomenal fighter

Nothing ordinary about Saldivar. Nothing flashy, but then, neither was Marciano.
