John, How about Clarence Henry? going from on top of the world 1950-1953 to all of a sudden detached retina and out of boxing at young age by 1954. Was it the archie moore fight when his eye became permantly damaged? One Helluva fighter
Yes. Charley Burley retired when fights simply couldn't be made. There was a period of inactivity possibly due to contractual dispute, there had been some advertisements in Calafornia newspapers conerning the Californian State MW title, but Burley had been made to easy to ignore by the inactivity, and it's not like he was that hard to ignore in the first place. Burley needed money and the city needed a garbage man, so that's what Charley did. I think $2,000 was his career high pay-day.
Jefferies??? Is it disgusting to make a comeback to the ring, for the sake of 'saving' the white populations esteem and pride, only to cop a belting at the hands of a man who was a superior fighter at any time of his championship reign? Jim made the comeback in disgust, if anything. :good One that I thought raised might have been Tszyu after Hatton??? Once again, belted by the better man.
Interestingly, it's a myth that Cooper was robbed against Bugner. In truth, the fight was close enough that it could have gone either way.
Paul Pender after they stripped him of the middleweight title and he took it to court and they reversed their decision.
