How did you score GGG 1? Which rounds did you give to GGG? Because rounds 1-3 & 10-12 were pretty clearly Canelo rounds. Then you have round 4 which was also a good Canelo round and rounds 5 and 6 were very close. Even if you gave some of those rounds to GGG and had him winning, who won those close rounds and who won the overall result was certainly debatable. The only fighter who beat Canelo clearly was Mayweather. Both fights vs GGG were extremely close and at worst could be argued either way. I don't really see how you can make the argument that GGG beat Canelo clearly in either fight. GGG looked like a fish out of water in the 4 rounds in the first Canelo fight. It wasn't until the last minute of the 5th round that GGG landed anything noteworthy, before that it was all Canelo. With GGG starting so slow and giving away so many early rounds, all Canelo needed was a couple of more rounds after such a strong start. And he certainly did that in rounds 10-12.
@shadow111 as I've said the fight has been debated enough, but in case you're interested these were my thoughts on the most recent viewing. Golovkin vs Canelo 1 1: 10-9 2: 9-10 3: 10-9 4: 10-9 5: 10-9 6: 10-9 7: 10-9 8: 10-9 9: 10-9 10: 9-10 11: 9-10 12: 9-10 This fight starts in a similar pattern to the recent fights, Golovkin is more of a menacing plodder than a ferocious fighter who cuts the ring off with two steps. Canelo is frustrating Golovkin with movement, but his activity levels are way down meaning Golovkin wins the opening round with pretty much just a jab. The 2nd sees Canelo up to activity levels and beat Golovkin to punch on a number of occasions, particularly to the body. The third round sees Golovkin re establishing his jab and reducing the workrate of Canelo. The jab here is a fine weapon employed by GGG, this version of the fighter is still a terrific fighter and actually was worthy of his P4P ranking. It makes me ask now, is this iteration as good as the previous one, conservative footwork, pumping jab, sharpshooting power shots, defensively astute. Different to the version who fought Lemieux, absolutely, but worse? I'm not so sure now tbh. The fourth round is the best Golovkin has looked since the Lemieux victory imo. He pounds that jab, follows up with measured power shots in combination, cuts the ring off brilliantly and really controls the round. I get the argument that Canelo wants to fight off the ropes and is countering accurately, but it doesn't wash for me, this is a very good display. Round 5 shows Golovkin again leading behind the jab. Canelo tried to a bit of kidology showing he can see every punch coming, but ultimately he does nowhere near enough to steal the round from Golovkin. Round 6, 7, 8 and 9 is more of the same. Golovkin bullying behind the jab but throwing sporadic power shots. Canelo trying to prove he can't be hit cleanly, but not consistently making Golovkin pay for missing. Rounds 10-12 see Canelo timing with Venom and landing those highlight reel flush counters we've seen so much on YouTube. I'm gonna be honest, I've seen this fight a few times and I've never thought anything other than a Golovkin win was the right result, but the draw would not have been given had Canelo not come out firing in those last 3 rounds, come out firing against the most dangerous opponent of his career, come out firing when his gas tank has constantly been questioned up until now. Too little too late on my card, but he earnt his draw the hard way. Without those 3 rounds he loses the fight and probably never gets a rematch. So credit where its due, Canelo fought a hell of a fight and dig deep when it counted, just as Tito did against Hoya. But just as that fight, the decision is plainly wrong. 116-112
Like I said I scored it 116-112 for Canelo due to his superior boxing skills. From memory Canelo won the first 4 rounds with his superior boxing ability and sleek skills then Lil G came on in the middle rounds with his pace and tempo. Canelo won the champion round clearly rounds 10-12.
Mayweather Golovkin x 2 Kovalev was ahead at the time of the stoppage. Sauders was arguably ahead before the stoppage. And then there's Lara that did alright. If other fighters had Canelo's judges, they might have won, like Jacobs.
I just watched round 4 again, and I have no clue how anybody could give this round to GGG. All 3 judges somehow gave this round to GGG, it's baffling. Canelo landed the bigger more eye catching shots this round, including several stiff jabs that snapped GGG's head back, and he made GGG miss wildly countless times throughout the round by leaning in then pulling back when GGG threw a punch. This simple trick by Canelo worked again and again making GGG whiff. In final minute Canelo was making GGG look silly, Kellerman said GGG landed a "good right hand" with 32 seconds left in the round then RJJ said "yeah it was". No it wasn't. This "good right hand" from GGG didn't land clean, it barely grazed Canelo's chin and landed on Canelo's right shoulder. It had no actual impact to the chin. Then Canelo counters with a hard jab then a clean flush right hand. This is like the whole round in microcosm, GGG gets credit for BS punches that don't land flush or with any real impact, Canelo's shots were clean and hard. GGG won this round because he was the one coming forward the whole round, but Canelo was the one landing the better cleaner shots. At the end of the round GGG finally lands some decent shots and Lampley proclaims "GGG has finally arrived in the building" and points out that this is the first time that GGG is landing on Canelo after not doing so in the first 3 rounds. What I would say to that is yes GGG had some marginal success near the end of the 4th round, but over the first 2 and a half minutes GGG was missing wildly, and when he landed, they were light punches or partly blocked, while Canelo was effectively countering and Canelo was the one landing the harder shots. I think it's very easy for people to give GGG round 4 without paying much attention, seeing Canelo retreating for much of the round, and at times looked a little gassed, but if you pay attention to who landed the harder quality shots, who made who miss wildly more, it was a definite Canelo round. The shots that GGG landed really didn't have much snap on then, while Canelo was landing shots that were much more eye catching, snapped GGG's head back. Canelo definitely landed the better harder jabs in this round. GGG landed some jabs in succession while Canelo was on the ropes, but these punches had no impact whatsoever.
Only Floyd beat him on points. Canelo beat Lil G twice in My considered opinion. Knocked out Kovalev, broke Saunders face cheek bone and made him quit. Puta. Lara was a close fight he edged depending on your interpretation.
I gave GGG the 5th round. Rounds 4 - 6 were much closer than rounds 1-3. These were not easy rounds to score. Round 4 I gave to Canelo, Round 5 to GGG, Round 6 could have gone either way. See unlike you I recognize closer rounds and try to split close rounds rather than give anything close to GGG like you do.
I could not put it any better than what you have said above. Excellent analysis of the fight. I think people like Langley see what they want to see and lack objectivity. They can’t hide their bias.
