............I've been watching a lot of youtube these days, trying catch up on some fights I missed in the days when I had to work weekends when I was in junior college and missed a lot of fights.

The other day I saw Chavez-Laporte for the first time. I scored it a 114-114 draw, and I hate that. I feel like I'm riding the fence on it, but that's how the math ended up, what can I say? I'd make a terrible judge. Chavez looked little like the strong force he was later, and I think by that time he should have been at 135; he looked weight-drained. Still, a spirited effort by the super-tough Laporte, and his last good fight.

I also saw Ibeabuchi-Tua. Good scrap for a couple heavyweights. Nice pace, interesting shifts in momentum, nice punch output. If all heavyweight fights (or at least some of them) were like this now, I wouldn't loathe them so much.

    What about you?

Olivares - Argüello (a brave old lion; a still-learning rising star)
Napoles - Muñiz II (the old master does it again; Muñiz, a rock)
Limón - Chacón II (feral instincts, a fight for honor part of never-ending U.S.-Mexico rivalries)

All in volume 1 of a new DVD series coming out in my area.

Duran vs. DeJesus III. It looked to me like Duran dominated that fight. I was really impressed by Duran's overall performance in that one.

    Louis-Walcott I (Highlights)
    Bivins-Charles (Highlights)
    Tiger-Fernandez
Hopkins Echols I. A lo-fi classic this one. Hopkins isn't the majestic economist (where the **** that came from or even means I don't know) he's become but that makes for a fight which is far and away more fun. Echols is in control for long stretches of the fight until the cream starts to rise to the top.
    Burley-Smith (highlights)
    Jim Johnson-Sam McVey (highlights)
    Marvin Hagler-Tommy Hearns.
