Mayweather's legacy doesn't need any help. He has done everything that he needed to do and will go down in history as one of the greatest that ever laced them up. There are no lines in the ATG category where one is behind the other. They stand shoulder to shoulder and represent the greatness of their era. Mayweather takes a backseat to no one.

Fighting any prime fighters would have helped. ATM, I'd like to see him against Lara or GGG at 154. Makes me laugh when Floyd is giving as an excuse: "I cannot fight GGG since I cannot make 160" BUT...he is making abstraction of the fact that GGG offered to come at 154. By beating GGG, he would make a major statement in favor of his legacy.

No he didn't he didn't even win the first one it may have looked that way but Maidana didn't bring any skill and the rematch played out exactly as it was predicted ..Sorry but that fight did not have more interest than a rematch with Oscar..

Just got back to this thread so a few points to make off the back of the discussion that's followed.

The fights I suggested were not necessarily based on plausibility but on what would have added to his legacy. Politics, networks ducking etc was not factored in. I'm aware it's impossible to fight everyone but these would have been worthy additions to the resume if they happened. I guess the Oscar one was maybe most far fetched but I'm sure it was talked about for a time before it actually happened.

I think Floyd IS a great welterweight. Ok he has never faced a WW opponent to put him on that Robinson, Leonard type level but he had a great career below that and notable wins above so it's churlish to suggest otherwise.

On the margo thing guess will have to agree to disagree. I can't recall him facing anyone with that style plus the height reach chin and stamina tony possessed. I think he would have got some credit for that win, I mean Shane did, it was what got him the FMJ fight!

Also just because Floyd would have been favoured to win is no reason not to fight, in that case all his fights for the last decade or more were pointless!

He don't have to fight GGG or Lara and his legacy will be as strong as ever. Let them fight each other. Lara has been calling GGG out for a while now. But you know what, Lara is like Margo trying to get a fight with Floyd. He is not on GGG radar because a fight with him wouldn't move the needle on where GGG wants to go. He is like a side dish and GGG only wants the main course. No matter how people rant and rave/ pro or con, GGG and his team has an agenda and that is to make him a mega star in boxing. He will fight everybody he needs to fight and when or if he reaches that plateau of mega s****om, he will fight who he wants to fight. Sound familiar.

The thing is, Shane needed that fight and Floyd didn't. Leonard fought the demons he needed to fight in his era with Duran, Hagler and Hearns. Floyd fought the demons he needed to fight in his era with Pac, Oscar and Alverez. You can say that Leonard's demons were better but that's not the issue. He faced who he needed to face.

And a rematch with #38 would have played out as a a one sided boxing lesson.:deal I was here back then and people complained about the possible PBF-#38 rematch. After the first Maidana fight people called for a rematch and people said PBF wouldn't give him one he was scared and Maidana kicked his ass. So of course like PBF haters will always do they will downplay the rematch when before it was said he would do one they all wanted and said he deserved a rematch.

The only two with any chance of beating mayweather imo would have been 2009 pacman and possibly tyszu. Would still have mayweather favourite for both fights. Think tyszu might have had the style to catch him inbetween getting outboxed for large parts of the fight. Tyszu underated imo...not a lot of great wins on his resume but was a tremendous fighter. Also would have loved to have seen hatton v mayweather at 140. No arguments about who would have won it. But a prime hatton before tyszu would have gave him a tougher nite than he did in the end. Think mayweather would have dealt with the rest easy enough margarito etc. Maybe willians due to his length would have gave him problems. But find it hard to bet against floyd with any of them. Golvikin included. I genuinely think floyd would beat him.

What are you saying?!? If someone has an agenda, it is Floyd. You really think Floyd wouldn't be on GGG radar? Well, that's what Mayweather and his fans hope. The bottom line is that he takes on big names that are over the hill and these names looks good on his record. He goes on and on saying this guy doesn't deserve a fight with me but after that, the master of contradictions takes on Berto that lost 3 of his last 6 fights. If it's not laughing at the fans, I don't how we can call this.

It sounds like an exaggeration, but Money Floyd isn't a fighter. PBF was.

Since Floyd became Money who has he actually beaten? He has 1 win over a primed and ready opponent since then when he knocked out Hatton.

Also the three best fighters he ever fought (Marquez, Mosley and Pac) were all past their best when he fought them.

Anybody great he had to wait.
