What Flag Did Benny Goldberg Fight Under In 1943?

    So I noticed that in the past Benny Goldberg was listed on BoxRec under Polish nationality; then, his nationality on this site was changed to USA; he fought in the USA during his entire amateur and pro careers. Is it possible to check what country he was officially listed under in 1943 when he challenged Manuel Ortiz for the bantamweight crown? Not sure if the New York Times and/or other newspaper archives include that information. Boxing is not like the Olympics, where every athlete has one flag assigned to him. Why does it matter? Well, it makes a difference when evaluating the amount and quality of Polish world title contenders throughout boxing history. Can we count Goldberg as a Pole? Adam Kownacki also came to America when he was a child and spent his whole amateur and pro campaigns stateside yet BoxRec has him listed under Poland’s flag. Thoughts on Goldberg?
