So again, what fights are actually there at 168? DeGale is a possibility because Hearn could promote it into a decently sized affair in the UK. I'd like to see what "great" fights could realistically be made at 168. I will say if he fights BHop instead of DeGale should he not get Canelo or Saunders in the fall, I will be heartily disappointed though.
I never mentioned "great fights" but all the top rated guys in the SMW division would likely make for more competetive fights than the few middleweights who would actually be willing to fight GGG. How about deGale, Jack, Abraham, Bute, the Dirrells and Groves as possible fights?. Ramirez and Smith could be options in the future and evrn Chavez Jr, Ward and Stevenson might be willing and able to fight him at 168. Also the guy you mentioned, Hopkins.
I don't see Jack, Abraham, or a Dirrell ever taking the fight. Groves is already done, so is Bute and Smith. Chavez Jr wouldn't take the fight for 7mil (+5mil guarantee on next bout) even before he went to Haymon and before he got wrecked by Fonfara. Ward probably can't make 168 easily, personally I think that's why his "offer" was so whacked and for late 2016 (as opposed to being the next fight, which is what some trolls try to play it off as) It's not that I think Ward is afraid of the fight at all, but I even remember in videos during his lay offs him saying 168 was getting difficult. Ward can beef up for Krusher, or work at getting back down for GGG but probably not both. Which makes me sad because that fight is the most interesting fight in boxing IMO. Now Gilberto Ramirez may be a different story, if he manages to beat Abraham. Bob has mentioned that fight. Of course its Bob, so who knows - but if Canelo and Saunders (and Jacobs) are MIA for a fall showdown and Bob DID try to make the fight I'd really hope K2 would take it. It's more that I don't think he should give up him 160belts and mando slots than not thinking he should take no fights at 168. As I see it, the realistic fights he could take are thus: Canelo Saunders Jacobs DeGale Ramirez (should he beat Abraham) and in about that order. Anything else, short of Ward getting on Jenny Craig diet, at 160 or 168 is pretty much the same. It's just "grass is greener" syndrome.
