    Orlando Salido vs. Mikey Garcia

If it doesn't end early (and it might) it's got FOTY potential.

Who do you favor IB? I like Siri by a good margin but wouldn't be so surprised to see Mikey step up and take the win.

I'm fairly confident in Mikey's chin - but, ****, man - Salido is a BEAST and will throw stuff at him he's never dreamed of before. Juan Manuel Lopez got that deer-in-headlights look whenever Salido nailed him. (although with JuanMa we had warning signs, like against Mtagwa...)

I also think Salido is the hungrier man, and his passion has never flagged over sixteen years in the pros - whereas Mikey seems a lot more laid back and based on things said in some interviews doesn't seem to have quite the fire in him or love of fighting.

OTOH, Salido is hardly unstoppable (although nobody's done it since the decade before last) and Garcia is a powerful technician with all the tools necessary to get the job done.

I'm going to tentatively say the young gun comes through in a war, based on a hunch that Salido might be declining (looked poor against Weng Haya, and the dominance in the rematch could be down to having ruined Lopez the first time) while Garcia keeps looking sharper and sharper and is totally on point.

Great points. There are different question marks under either. Salido's abilities are proven, but at his age and with his level of wear & tear, you never know when they're going to give out even slightly at a crucial juncture. His confidence in the rematch may well have come from a certainty he could win the war of attrition (although Lopez made great adjustments defensively in the rematch).

Mikey does seem relatively bland in terms of his interest in the sport. In reference to that, his last performance was kind of a double-edged sword; it reassured us he isn't going to crumble at the taking of numerous hard shots from an opponent finding their way on the inside, but it also may have foreshadowed a higher level opponent having much more success with the same pressure and technical know-how.

I really like Mikey's technique and displayed maturity & calmness, but I think Siri is going to go out on his shield before letting himself lose a bout of that magnitude, and while Mikey has the power and accuracy to accomplish that given he lands, I think Siri is going to feint and counter on his way in with an intensity Garcia hasn't ever faced. He may not crumble by his own accord, but assuming Salido doesn't fade, I favor him to take the choice out of Mikey's hands and chop him down with overhand rights & consistent body punching.
