I think it's the black box, the box you use to steal cable. That's how I watched all my fights growing up. My best friend had one and his fam always had fight party's. I still remember all the fights we watched as a kid and when "fan man" entered the ring during the Riddick Bowe vs. Holyfield fight . We also used to cut class in jr. high, head over to his house and watched porn while we ate our lunch haha!
This is the one I remember. This means I was ghetto, or was so intoxicated during the years the companies graduated to the black box I have no recollection of ever having seen it at my house. This content is protected
what the **** is that? were you stealing cable from the 70's? I'm playing pimpin. I see that you're from the Bay too, San Rafael CA. I went to highschool across the bridge in Richmond! Kennedy High! What it do! haha
I went through two phases: 1. Initially it was the 90s heavies that got me into boxing i.e. Tyson and co. Also followed Kostya Tszyu and some of the filipino fighters like Penalosa as my relatives watched alot of boxing. Then I got into UFC and PRIDE around 2000 when the big name heavies started falling away from the scene, and pretty much stopped watching boxing altogether. 2. Funny enough it wasn't until 2006 when Rocky Balboa came out that stirred my interest again. At first it was to see what heavies where at the top, then it filtered to the other weight divisions to see what was going on and I haven't looked back since.
I started payin attention on delahoya/chavez rematch then when delahoya fought tito it took me to a whole other level!
I grew up in the 90's, so watched Hoya in the Olympics. Caught the tail end of Chavez's career. Was a big Pernell fan growing up in VA, (I also went to Va Tech with his nephew who played cornerback for the football team)...and of course watched all the big HW fights witl Tyson's comeback, Holy, Bowe....have to say, the 90's was a stellar decade to hook in new boxing fans.
Corrales vs Castillo I. I hardly considered myself a boxing fan before that even though I would watch a boxing fight here and there. This was the fight that made me a fan. It's still my favorite boxing match of all time.
my old man boxed in the army but he was also took his **** out on us when he came back from work. as i was the oldest, i was the one who started hitting back when i was about 13 - boxing became a bigger thing in my life and schoolwork didn't around that time, but the good news is my brothers and sister who grew up after me didn't have to have the childhood i did. luckily i grew into a big guy and became pretty handy with my fists. dad never tried it on again.
All thanks to my pops. I discovered boxing during the tail end of Ali's career and the emergence of the Fab 4 of the 80's. SRL got me hooked and guys like Sweet Pea, RJJ, BHop, Tyson, Morales, Barerra kept the interest strong. Pac is the icing on the cake.
Muhammad Ali made me a casual fan but it was sugar ray robinson who made me into a fulltime super duper uber boxing fan and amateure boxer
