Frazier threw a wide variety of punches with regularity. :conf That he was basically all left hooks has become some weird Bert-Sugar-creates-a-fact phenomenon among boxing fans, I think. :-(
James Toney. No denying the talent, but the dude fought lazy, and I despise watching lazy fighters. People always just tell me he's relaxed, but he's also lazy. The Jirov fight was fun, the Nunn fight had a fun ending, the McCallum fights were watchable and compelling, beyond that, meh.
Muhammad Ali, I find many of his fights boring. Michael Spinks, his style also bores me. Wlad and Vitali Klitschko, both are boring and Wlad frustrates me when he doesn't let his hands go. Jack Johnson, I get frustrated with the frequent clinching and never saw the greatness that others see :conf Joe Calzaghe (if he's classified as great), his style gets on my nerves with the way he slaps instead of punches. Oscar De La Hoya, can't really place my finger on it but outside of a few fights I don't really care for his style.
Bernard Hopkins is the most boring great fighter I have watched - well he's certainly the first one who springs to mind and joe Calzaghe is by far my least favourite and most vastly over rated - he actually maddens me and few if any achieve that distinction
I agree with Monzon.By far,the most tedious and painfully boring of any modern great fighter that I've watched. His style simply doesn't fit the imposing destroyer type image that I've seen others describe him as having. His famed jab also doesn't resemble anything close to the authoritative, heavy and accurate punch that we've be told that it was, either. Quite a let down, really.
I gotta agree with you, I head so many posters on here praising his aggression and power, but when I see him I just see a good boxer/puncher with some skill and determination. Idk he wasn't too exiting IMO but he got the job done.
Another vote for Floyd Mayweather, I just have never seen greatness that others seem to see. (Yes he's good.)
Ali. Roy Jones. I have a horrible bias against guys that fought in the Olympics. Stylistically Willie Pep doesn't do much for me, but I don't dislike him like I do the two above.
Hopkins is the only one who I really can not stand to watch. I like craftiness. I don't like negative fighters who are also dirty and whine. I love watching Monzon. There's a lot of subtlety in his work, a lot switching speed and distance that just reveals immaculate control of his opponent and the ring. The results speak volumes.
