Ron Borges used to write for the Boston Globe. I think he still contributes to some boxing websites on occasion. IIRC, he was involved in a plagiarism scandal a while back.

Pedro is still at it, charging windmills. He's got a new article up today at his site. Pedro is not for everybody to be sure, but I always had respect if not admiration for him.

He's a tough hombre who wasn't afraid to speak his mind and to back it up - in the Ring if necessary - well into his mid/late 40's I believe.

Pedro's a bozo, he's too egotistical and self serving.

His articles are littered with, "I"......they're all about himself.

I stopped visiting his website. I used to leave comments to his articles in his comments section breaking down the holes in his articles, and he'd delete about 90% of my comments.
The man just cant stand comments that expose his opinions, and that just is weak on his part.
I've found he cant back up what he writes.

Hopefully they both choked on their own vomit. Poor writers. Pedro tried to hard by trying to be sensational and Borgess was just well connected in terms of the Globe and HBO, and managed to linger around.

No doubt some of what you wrote is accurate.

But Pedro has also fought for the underdog (Campas when he was screwed out of a purse), he has exposed some of the really nasty stuff (Operation Matchbox, Gibbons, etc.) that very few others want to write about. He's also been doing this for close to, if not more than 30 years.

I'm surprised at his deletion of your comments. I don't agree with that either.

If he could not back up what he writes, I am sure he would have been wiped out in a lawsuit by now, he's fought at one time or another with some big names.

Also remember Pedro had an extensive (and distinguished if I remember correctly), amateur career.

He was hit in the head a lot.

I was puzzled as to why he was deleting my comments that I wrote him an Email asking for an explanation.
He emailed back explaining that he'd been getting too many negative comments on his section and that he had to dispose of the litter.
I emailed him one of my comments that he had deleted asking him to break down what was wrong with my comments, he emailed back advising me to drop it, it was his website and he could do with it as he pleased.

I've since found out that Pedro has a problem letting the comments that come by his articles that expose the holes on his views.

.......anyone that knows me on this site knows I dont use profanity or blow my top when someone does'nt agree with me.
I always gave Pedro the same courtesy and respect of debate I give others here on ESB, but Pedro would have nothing of it.......if the comment did'nt suit his articles agenda and made his opinions look weak, he'd delete it.

My final Email to him was to let him know he was losing a daily reader and to inform him that if his readers could not make a sound argument and comment that was on the flipside of his, that he should'nt have a comments section at the end of his article pieces.
......I never recieved a response from him after that email.

Take a look at his comments section on an article thats been up a few days, you'll notice that its void of any good comments that are of the opposite of his own view.

......he'll leave up some of the silly comments that say a ******* would make, but delete a sound written one that opposes his view. Simply stated, he does'nt like anyone thats educated exposing him.

Btw, I read those pieces a few years back that exposed Bob Arum and Top Rank.......he had good material against Arum, but he ruined the validity of those articles by constantly giving himself the praise and the credit for exposing Arum.
When a writer does that, you begin to wonder how much of the truth that he's writing is being stretched.

Anyways, thats my two cents on Pedro.

    I was apart of that...
Seattle Seahawk fan from the ESPN message boards found some article Borges Plagiarized from the Seattle news. He posted it at the New England Patriots board since he knew we all hated Borges cause all did was talk trash about the Pats. We spammed email the Globe and other newsites about it and got him suspended.

    True Story.

Pedro went off the rails som years ago.
His website has really gone downhill, his censorship being one thing, but his lousy journalism in worse imo.
What he does these days is smearcampaigning, not journalism.

    He is also very biased.
Pedro likes Andre Ward and gives him a pass for working with Victor Conte.
Can you imagine the storm he'd whip up if Manny Pacquiao or the Klitschko's worked with Conte instead of Ward?

Borges lost all credibility when he scored Lewis-Holyfield 1 a draw.
I've also seen several of his "in-depth" articles where he has made serious errors, meaning his research of poor.
The fact that he got suspened also tells alot about him.

I really like Pedro's radios show. He's sensationalist at times, no doubt, but it's nice to hear a show willing to criticise some of the shady stuff going on in boxing. He's so critical nowadays though I wonder if he even likes boxing anymore, and the constant advertising (especially for Bill Conte's SNAC products) can grate, but his knowledge of the sport's history and his pedigree as an amateur boxing give his opinions some weight. Not a show for everyone (Pac fans especially), but a unique voice with valid opinions.
