His career stalled because he lost his desire after enduring boxing’s repeated nonsense. The final straw was his “draw” against Sosa in a fight he clearly won. Walters talked about having fouls against him ignored by referees and the draw left a bad taste in his mouth. So he got out after Loma destroyed and toyed with him.
I think encountering Loma during peak Loma hype and getting embarrassed took what will he had left. He was probably on the edge prior to the fight and kept hearing of the greatness of Loma. Part of him was ready to believe it before the first bell rung. Then when Loma got into the zone, though he hadn't even landed too many significant shots, the part of Walters that needed to believe he could win, instead believed everything they'd said about Lomachenko.
Walters has devoted his post-boxing life to replicating and carving out the Sistine Chapel ceiling in the Cave of Shame he's made his permanent home since Lomachenko sent him there.
Living on a white beach somehwere with his winningd from being champ for a few years. Probably sinking some doobs having some red stripes
Loma made four world class fighters, three of them world champions, two undefeated, one ranked P4P#4, quit in back-to-back fights through nothing but the application of skill and technical wizardry. None of these fighters had displayed an ounce of quit in them before or since and don't forget Sosa knew Walters had quit before him in Loma's previous fight, Marriaga knew Walters and Sosa had quit before him, and Rigo knew Walters, Sosa and Marriaga had quit before him. Four no mas wins in a row, something which has never happened before or since. Loma was a very bad man at 130.
Seriously though what has happened to this dude ? I haven’t seen any pictures of him since the Lomachenko fight. Is he still alive ?
Don't forget Rigo became a recluse for almost a year after Loma harvested his soul too. Word on the street is he went into hiding in the cellar of a monastery on a remote island somewhere in the Mediterranean
