My conversation with Ted Spoon. mcvey said: Hi Ted,I wonder if you can help me out? A poster has said that you have seen the Hague v Langford fight , can you confirm this please? . No. I once thought to have possessed it a while ago but it was in fact just a copy of Langford vs. Bill Lang. People will false advertise to sell. Ted Spoon, Jul 14, 2016 Report End Of!
Here's a question. Q Why wasn't Jeffries disqualified when he was assisted back upright after being knocked down the 15th and last round? Gunboat Smith said Johnson "could have knocked him out in the first round if he wanted to." Los Angeles Herald headline read: "Experts Declare Battle Was Not Championship Contest - Think Burns Made Far Superior Showing Against Negro and That Johnson Merely Played With Opponent From Tap of Gong to Finish". "I am going into this fight for the sole purpose of proving that a white man is better than a Negro." - Jim Jeffries before the fight Jeff is too old and cannot get into condition to fight anybody. He’s all in, and nobody knows it better than himself. He can never get into his former good trim." - Jack Johnson before the fight "Come on now, Mr. Jeff. Let me see what you got. Do something, man. This is for the championship." - Jack Johnson taunting Jeffries during the fight "I could never have whipped Johnson at my best. I couldn't have hit him. No, I couldn't have reached him in 1,000 years." - Jim Jeffries after the fight "I won from Mr. Jeffries because I outclassed him in every department of the fighting game. Before I entered the ring I was certain I would be the victor. I never changed my mind at any time." - Jack Johnson after the fight." https://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/04/sports/othersports/04boxing.html https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn85066387/1910-07-05/ed-1/seq-13/
Was there a lot wishful thinking on the part of people who wrote highly positive reports of Jim Jeffries after observing him training and sparring for his bout with Jack Johnson? The simple fact is that Jeffries was 35 years of age and had not fought in five years. He also lost a tremendous amount of weight to get into fighting shape for the bout with Johnson. As a result, Jeffries simply was a shell of his former self and no match for Johnson. - Chuck Johnston
Could you imagine if the promoters said that Johnson would be fighting an older, balding, no longer prime Jeff? Imagine everyone being honest and not sale the fight....no sensationalism or bending of the truth.....could you imagine a non Jim Crowe era where every person says this fight is a sham Jeffries has no business in the ring with Johnson........it would have been a financial disaster! This fight was an earlier example of how to sell a mismatch of a fight.
True, but I feel the aura surrounding Jeffries ,retiring undefeated ,which no heavyweight champ had done at that time, and his size , all contributed to the sincere idea that ,even if he wasn't the Jeff of old, he would still be too much for this," ****** with a yellow streak down his back."
Jeffries called him a skunk,a **** ,and a ****** many times and refused to shake his hand at the signing of the fight and in the ring.Nice guy old Jeff! I would have edited the second insult with asterisks ,but I once got banned for that!
Quite a few fights went more than 45 rounds. If you watch the film on Willard vs Johnson, you'll see some of the rounds before the 20th were Willards. Had Johnson vs Willard been 20, Willard picks up his pace sooner.
This does not change the fact that he said he saw it. Some of these rare fights have rules around them, and I'm not sure why Ted, who's a decent historian can't tell the difference between Lang and Hauge as they have different builds. At any rate, your lies are exposed yet again, and you won't take my bet.
Your ignorance is showing once again. One can purchase 57 minutes of total footage, with 27 minutes of action. 27 minutes of action is ring action is equivalent to 9 rounds, and not all the rounds shown are 3:00 minutes long. This is not a hard fight to purchase. If you " think " there are only 2 of the first 10 rounds shown left, that is 6:00 minutes of action. Where's the other 21 minutes, that a bit more than rounds 11-15. Its clear you don't know what you are talking about again.
Those were the times, with slavery having UK based roots but we know that already. I don't use language like that and prefer not to even quote it. Johnson was a law breaker, a contract breaker, a wife beater ( Nearly killed her ) , and had problems all over the world. Johnson once beat up a 120 pound sickly man.
Those were the times / social prejudices. I never seen Jeffries treat anyone unfair, assault women ect...that was Jack Johnson. Would you rather me quote Winston Churchill 30-40 years later, talk about being racists! Why not to show the difference? "I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilized tribes...[It] would spread a lively terror." - Curchhilll I hate Indians, they are a beastly people with a beastly religion - Churuchill Churchill was a drunk, and can thank his lucky stars the USA saved the UK as the Nazi's would have likely broken them had they not entered World War II. Thanks goodness the people threw him out quickly after the war ended.
