Good wins over faded Gatti and Castillo. Not as good as Cotto or any great welters. Hasn't fought since March of 2010. But is on a four fight streak. What will he do?
He was supposed to face Chavez Jr a while back I recall. Not sure what happened, but I do believe Gomez would have made Jr work for the win.
Good to know he can still get some good fights. He may never be champion, but theres more to a career than that.
He ran out of legends to kill. When the legend killer is needed no more, he returns to the mist whence he came.
He's with TR now. I could see Arum matching him with guys like Mike Jones, Wolak, Foreman. He'd be a nice comeback fight for Mosley too after he loses to Pac, should Mosley seek to fight on. Arum could also throw Golden Boy a bone by trying to match him up with Saul Alvarez. He's the type of opponent GBP are looking for - smaller, name recognition from the contender. Probably too much risk for Alvarez though, as Gomez does possess decent boxing skills.
The fight with chavez Jr. was postponed because a Gomez injury. Afterwards they matched Chavez Jr against Wolak for the first time and Chavez got sick. Gomez is supossed to fight soon, I remember seeing it on the ESPN boxing schedule.
Gomez tore some ligaments in his left elbow while in training for the Chavez Jr fight which caused him to pull out of that fight, though it wouldn't have mattered because Chavez Jr pulled out himself due to the flu screwing up his weight loss at about the same type. Gomez was hoping to fight on March 19th against a remove ring-rust type opponent on a small card but his elbow still wasn't 100 percent as of a few weeks ago, so now he's hoping for the same around May or June, just depends on when the elbow is good.
