Where has he disappeared to? He beat Devon Alexander in his last fight (apart from on the judges cards) over a year ago now and I haven't heard anything about him since. Shame because he was a good boxer, not elite level but he would give most boxers a good fight in the 140 division and has a few decent fights left in the division. He would have been a good fight for Bradley whilst he's been in nowhere land, a return with Maidana would have been interesting and he could be a good match up for the likes of Morales, Mattysee, Judah, Soto, Holt etc.
Maybe just taking a break and enjoying the life outside boxing. He made some good money over the years and got robbed a couple times inside the ring. He will be back 2012 i think. Boxing is a tough job.
It is a pity, the guy is definitely a top ten JWW and could possibly pick up another strap with Khan & Bradley moving up. A rematch with Maidana would be sweet
Because he refused to play the doormat, HBO cast him as and exposing Alexander as the limited fighter that he is....
Permanently blacklisted from US networks since he is seen by the Broadcasting kingpins as another boring, unmarketable Soviet Bloc fighter with a funny name who can't speak English and will be the spoiler when fed to black American hypejobs.
This. He stupidly signed with King and after embarrassing Devon and will not get a fight i'm sure. Just like Siarhei Lyakhovich who was with King and was ranked #13 in the WBO when he beat Brewster and won the belt. He was supposed to be a easy fight for Brewster and in the next couple years had two 18 month periods of inactivity, King punishing him. Kotelnyk could potentially beat any 140lb fighter not named Khan, ****ing sad. Kirkland gets exposed and now gets to fight Angulo. Kotelnyk completely outclasses Alexander who most were calling a P4P top 10 fighter and heir apparent to Mayweather and now Kotelnyk is blacklisted.
He's currently being ****ed over by Don King. Half the forum knew he would do before he signed and that's what happened.
Pretty much this, and it's a ****ing shame. I like Kotelnik, good little fighter and very well rounded, plus he holds a win over Maidana and has only ever been beaten clearly once by Khan.
Andy needs to come back. He's got many lucrative options (virtually all rematches) if he makes the call-out and doesn't get ducked by any/all of them... He could lure Maidana into a rematch. Surely MRM would want a chance to avenge a loss that his people and his fans have been bemoaning as a robbery ever since? (it wasn't; close fight...could go either way). Kotelnik could win that one...again...and oh, what a prize that would be! From out of the shadows, to WBA champion! ...and two career wins over a "top three" light welterweight! He could lure Alexander into a rematch. All things considered, if you're Devon you'd probably rather see Kotelnik again than Matthysse. Both have shown they can figure you out, but one inflicts a lot more pain than the other. :yep Again - righting the wrong and putting a win over Alexander on his resume can do Kotelnik nothing but good, from the position he's in now...which is nowhere. He could lure Rees into a rematch. Gavin has been on a very good run since losing to him (unmarred by a dissatisfactory technical draw with Derry Matthews the other day) and is sitting pretty with a Euro title around his waist. I'm not sure if Kotelnik can shred five pounds, or how much it would affect his performance - but maybe calling Rees up to have a chance for revenge @ 140 in a non-title affair? It doesn't do much for his global/American visibility, but it's another good win doubled up on his record, and it would put him back fresh in the minds of the UK public...and possibly enter him into the Khan Rematch Sweepstakes along with Maidana and McCloskey. Or at the very least it might lead him to a date with McCloskey, giving him another (probable) good win and inching him closer in the Sweepstakes in a Highlander-quickening, "there can be only one" kind of way.
