I'm a huge Gatti fan, and it hurt to hear of his death. What a lot of people miss when discussing suicide is the huge amount of will and dedication required to go through the pain of killing yourself. If anybody showed the will to go through anything to accomplish his goal, it was Gatti. Nobody will ever know except him and his wife, though.
Almost every suicide I've ever heard of involved alcohol. They call it liquid courage for a reason. That's why I think it is extremely likely that he killed himself. He was not thinking straight and he was distraught and angry at himself.
You are right. I had a friend with substance abuse problems commit suicide. Alcohol can be a destructive force. Gatti had long documented alcohol problems.
There are things that point to both 9sad) endings. Most likely it will go down like Sonny Liston-we will never know the whole truth.
it was on the news some time ago here (I live in canada) they changed the ruling to homicide. his wife was likely involved but she did just enough to not get caught.
Are you sure about that? A Candian court awarded Gatti's widdow the estate, and a Canadian doctor peformed an autopsy that showed no signs of foul play. Only private investigators hired by Gatti's family claim it is a homicide.
He wasn't any better. It's amazing who people talk up a guy just because they liked the way that he blocked punches with his face. Gatti was a drunk, drug addict and a serial woman beater. In short, dude was a piece of ****. He was no better outside of the ring than Mayweather, who people around here love to **** on. As unsavory as his wife may be, the death was ruled a suicide by a Canadian coroner who reviewed the case. The Gatti family members who are pushing the murder theory have been trying to get their hands on his estate since he died. They've sued his wife for his money twice and had their cases tossed out both times. If she got locked up for his murder, the money would go to them. Gatti's older brother, Joe, who seems to be only one not interested in his dead brother's money, has publicly admitted that he believes his brother committed suicide. He also stated that Arturo was in bad shape after his boxing career ended and had attempted suicide in the past.
100% suicide I know people personally who knew gatti. All agree it was suicide. He was an alcoholic and on every drug imaginable when he retired, he had a lot of demons. Every bar gatti went to has a gatti story, he was a wild guy. In brazil he was drunk and pushed his wife on the ground and she said it was over and divorcing him.
He was no angel but you're being a dick. A lot of boxers struggle with drug abuse, and a lot smacked women around (Ali? SRR? SRL? Mayweather?). It's not like he punched a woman.
He did punch women and cops and 70-year-old men. I'm not being a dick. I'm being honest. Somebody has to push back against this "Saint Arturo" bull**** that started after he died.
he pushed a few woman, a 70 year old no? He beat the **** out of a cop for laying hands on him at a bar so what? How about "saint" ali who at 6'3 220 smack-K.O'd his wife for wearing lipstick? CMon man
Gatti was a POS who did a worse thing and Floyd, but he get a pass. :-( It amazes me how people don't want to talk about his abuse of women or beating people up, but want to trash others. Gatti was one rung below Valero.
