He won every tournament.. Audley vs. SSS was once on youtube for everyone to see.. and he got a hometown decision against Liakhovich.
He won an Olympic gold, but failed when it was felt he was going to win the Worlds; he failed to win Euro gold, and he also took some time to adapt at ABA title level too, despite being quite old for a novice (notably losing to Francis in 93).
It was his first loss, not his first fight, and he was already 23. The point is Harrison's amateur career was very weak, relatively, for someone with Olympic gold on resume. But I am being cruel, he will always have an Olympic Gold and hopefully he was sensible and has much of that £Million that the Beeb gave him.
It was his first fight.. he entered the ABA in 1993 lost to Julius Francis.. and again in 1994 and 1995 losing to the eventual runner ups both times. He started training when he was 19/20. Missed the 1996 ABA and the rest history.
It's impossible to have a junior career at 19 being that it was rare for U-17 to enter the Olympics (Floyd Patterson.. Amir Khan etc) Amir Khan being the reigning U-17 champion.. Lennox I think even waited until he was 18 to enter. Most boxers had a junior career.
He was, I just remember he was all but 30 before turning pro. But I can tell you Francis was not his first fight. He was around for a few years before fighting Francis. I got to see him quite a few times on shows, he was an impressive specimen, if a bit naive.
