After he was stopped for drunk driving, Showtime fired him, but he has never been heard from since. He did a good job as a commentator and should be heard from once in a while.
I met Czyz at the Kirk Center in Elizabeth, NJ back in 1990 when he was sparring with a very large HW. It was a blink of an eye and the HW got dropped. It was very impressive. I trained in the same gym and I asked him for a photo. It was pouring outside and he stopped what he was doing and we both ran to his Mercedes and he signed a 5 x 11 photo of himself. This meant alot due to Czyz going out of his way to give me the photo. He is a very articulate individual and he was a great commentator for Showtime. It is too bad about his drinking problem which showtime should have given him a chance to seek help and then let him return. He was also halarious with his put downs at the gym. He saw no color and was welcomed by all and the gym was 90% black and the other 10% latinos. Just thought I share that.
Wasn't Czyz the guy who belonged to Mensa? Lol I haven't heard much about since he got spanked by Sanders.
He did a great job on Showtime thats for sure he was really un biased, so was Pacheco I wonder what happend to him.
I beleive he has had several other DUI's since then. I liked Bobby also he had a rough life. I hope he is doing well.
A friend of mine was in a bar in Lyndhurst last year when Czyz was in the all drunk and talking **** that he'll fight anyone in the bar for something like 50 or 100 dollars and some big bro walked up and knocked him out right off of his stool..........I had heard he's a real ass when he drinks and he has a really bad powder problem as well.........I used to run into him from time to time in the gyms a few years back and he was always civil with me but i had heard those rumors about him from quite a few people.....Best of luck to him
................If I'm not mistaken, John Garfield in the Classic section knows him, and has told favorable stories. You might look him up via PM or something. If anyone would know, it's him.
That's putting it mildly. I remember hearing his abusive father eventually commited suicide, and more or less put it on Csyz's shoulders. Hell of a thing.
Here's a report on that accident Czyz had last year: Report: Czyz hurt in crash! Thursday, May 17 2007 Former world champion and boxing commentator Bobby Czyz was reportedly pulled unconscious from the back seat of a burning Mercedes last month in Millstone Township, New Jersey after a fiery crash. According to Associated Press, Czyz was flown by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in critical condition on April 13. He has since been moved to another facility and his condition is currently unknown.
