Seriously, what happened? The guy's straight up disappeared. He was another Japanese monster in the making. I know he missed weight and lost. Is he perpetually banned by the JBC? It's a shame. The guy could still have an awesome career, and is a very skilled and talented pressure fighter. I'd like to see a Tanaka bout, maybe.
He pops up once in a while in training/running photos from posts from other fighters in instagram but no word on his return or anything. I don’t think he’s banned either. A shame too because he was under the guidance of Gushiken, another great fighter from the same city of Okinawa and he was really proud of Higa.
I think we would have heard if he got his license back. He probably is still banned, but from my understanding it's more of a formality than anything. JBC had issues with boxers missing weight so they made an example out of Higa. (Higa was also the first Japanese boxer to loose his title on the scales)
Ah good catch and you're right. As of now, he still doesn't have his licence. They (JBC) don't play around when it comes to missing weight...
Man this guy was a talent. Had some good power and the skills to go with it but think he missed the weight and it took the energy from him in his last fight hence the loss. Wouldn’t mind him coming back at super fly tho. Could still make some noise
The fighter he lost to, Cristofer Rosales is Roman Gonzales cousin so it’s not like he lost to a pushover. Nothing to be ashamed of. Also wouldn’t mind seeing him again in a higher weight class. Super fly has a ton of great matchups.
Superfly will allow him to weight that bit more so making weight shouldn’t be as hard and his power should carry up. Rosales has some decent skills and packs a punch. Just think Higa was weight drained and unmotivated as he lost his belt before the fight
