As the others said, the guy has had one major back problem after another. Its a shame too, because the guy would have been willing to mix it up with anyone. Whether he would win or lose against Quillin, GGG, Martinez, Sturm, etc, he would have been fun to watch.
Ah, the ever recurrent 'what the hell happened to Pirog' threads - kinda part of the wallpaper - they spring up every month or two (sadly unlike Pirogs back)... But yeah, sadly it's looking increasingly likely we won't see Pirog back in the ring - last reports said he could make a return last autumn but then nothing since. despite him being a popular go-to guy for opinions in the Russian boxing media. There are rumours that he has business interests outside the ring also (though as with his fitness it's frustratingly difficult to get any concrete information - specially as a non-russian speaker)...in short no, nothing...tho I suspect at this point we've seen the last of him..if his absence is entirely the result of a chronic back injury (as oppossed to other factors) I suspect we'll never see Pirog in the ring again... his style coulda almost been designed to put stress on the lower back. Shame though..helluva fighter in his all too brief prime.
I almost hope he just retires at this point, whether his back is healthy or not. As sad as it has been to see him sidelined by injuries, it would be even sadder to see him return to the ring a shell of the fighter who KO'd Jacobs, using whatever name recognition he has left in the US to get a payday or two.
