Injuries. Endless injuries as far as I know it. Definitely not retired, his comeback has been in the works on and off for, well, a while now.
He was, very long undefeated streak. Shame father time isn't on his side. (Or anyones for that matter)
He's a champion in recess so gets a shot at the tittle when he comes back. Being nearly 38 and roughly 2 years out of action is not going to help. He could take the title from Bellew though, if he manages to hold on to that belt long enough.
