Supposedly the next in line to be the IBF mandatory, and yet we just saw Martin vs Ortiz for that honor. Both have had their title shots, neither have a chance vs AJ much less Usyk, so what gives? Does anyone know? Has any explanation been offered?
Was Ortiz/Martin a final eliminator or just an eliminator? If it's just an eliminator then Hrgovic will get mandated to fight Ortiz by the IBF next and Ortiz will duck that fight for sure. If it's a final eliminator then it looks like Hrgovic has missed his chance. Initially it was IBF 2 Martin vs IBF 3 Hrgovic that was mandated in Jan last year but Martin claimed he had an injury and so IBF then tried to mandate Hunter who ducked Hrgovic and then Hrgovic failed to secure another top 15 ranked IBF heavyweight to fight an eliminator with as they all ducked him including Ortiz according to Hearn. But I guess IBF got sick of waiting and so made this their final eliminator. The IBF never really mandated any other eliminator for Hrgovic after Martin and Hunter ducked him. So I'm not sure if Hrgovic really ever had an eliminator guaranteed regardless of what Hearn was trying to do. IBF wouldn't of cared about Hrgovic being unable to secure a suitable opponent for an eliminator all they care about is their sanctioning fees and they can't hold things up until someone grows a pair of balls to fight Hrgovic.
I'm not too optimistic about Hrgovic, he's a great fighter but I doubt he'll get a chance, although I'd rather have Hrgovic fight Parker...
Yoka is happy with can crushing in France, if not languishing in suspension due to incorrectly cycling drugs. Hrgovic isn't interested in challenges. Dychko seems to forget bxing exists. Joyce is old and injured.
Hrgovic not interested in challenges is a bit harsh when hunter pulled out for no reason He's getting ducked till he's old and worn out
I know Covid derailed things but Hrgovic has fought just 14 times in his professional career. He should be trying to get a shot from as many belts as possible.
He'll fight Parker next probably. He won't fight Ortiz cause Haymon and Hearn absolutely despise each other's guts.
Honestly for once I genuinely believe no one wants a part of him it's very high risk low reward the fact hunter pulled out for zero reason shows it no one wants to risk fighting him
Pretty ironic, when you think about it. Ortiz was the one who was frozen out of the scene around 2015-2017, now he’s benefiting from another fighter being frozen out of the scene. Anyways, Hearn needs to fix this ****. Ortiz shouldn’t get a title fight without having to go through Hrgovic.
Hrgovic 9 in ring ratings I think Ortiz will have to fight him. Nobody wants a 43 year old Ortiz getting a title shot without earning it. Time for new blood.
It's interesting. Assuming Usyk maintains the belts I don't see him having any interest putting miles on the odometer with someone like Ortiz. If AJ did win them back then Luis is exactly the sort of guy he likes to face to stay busy.
Haymon and Hearn don't despise each other. More of Joshua's title fights came against PBC fighters (Martin, Molina, Breazeale, Ruiz 1, Ruiz 2) than guys routinely used by Hearn (Takam & Usyk). Hearn just liked to publicly bash Wilder for not signing to fight Dillian Whyte ... when Hearn could've easily made a title fight with Whyte and Joshua any time over three years. That's why Whyte originally signed with Hearn ... to get a title shot at Joshua. Haymon understands what Hearn is doing. But he doesn't hold it against him. Every time Hearn needs a heavyweight title fight challenger, he calls the PBC. It was easier to get a title shot at Joshua if you were a PBC fighter than it was if you were a Matchroom fighter. Hrgovic should sign with the PBC. Hearn was great at moving Joshua, but he seems wholly uninterested in actually guiding the careers of any of the other heavyweights he signs. If you're a heavyweight and you sign with Hearn, all you are guaranteed is a bunch of fights with the unranked Chisora. The Hrgovic-Chisora series and the 13th and 14th losses for Chisora are upcoming.
Exactly. Hrgovic reminds me of a bigger Gerrie Coetzee. He needs a promoter who has a plan to take him to the top and make him a big name in the sport.
