He was a highly regarded prospect with the gold medal I see he's fighting this week Why hasn't he moved up more in the heavyweight title picture Does he just have bad management?
He probably doesn't want to. Boxing is very very hard at the top level. He would be facing big men whom he can't bully like he could with Torrez Jr. He is a national hero with two Olympic Golds. Why bother working much harder to beat strong experienced men in 12 round fights than just bullying 21 year olds in 4 round amateur fights? I could be wrong but i don't think he has the mentality of a champion.
He's 31. Hasn't fought a recognisable/respectable journeyman as a pro. There are dozens and dozens to choose from - if he wanted to climb the ladder, he'd have fought at least one. But no - he's happy being the goat-herder champion of the arse end of nowhere. No point crying for him - the opportunities are out there, he's just not interested. **** him, enough breath's been wasted already.
Nothing happened with Jalolov. Absolutely nothing and that is the problem. At the current rate, he will be a footnote in boxing history.
I believe he is happy being the big fish in the amateur scene and doesn't want to go back to that not being the case. I just remember his fight with Joyce earlier in his amateur career and Joyce just completely bullied him in the ring. I reckon he doesn't want to have to go back to that again. I mean I'm not even convinced he would beat Teremoana Jr in the pro scene for example.
And that's generous. He's more likely to be an annexe to an annexe. Actually, maybe not... He could just be one of the best examples of how you shouldn't expect decorated amateurs to go on and achieve squat as pros.
I could understand Felix Savon and Stevenson not turning pro because Cuba banned pro boxing. Sure. Even this, there is something uncomfortable seeing 30 year old "amateurs" bully 19 year olds who are actually amateurs. Jalolov is completely moronic. Dude isn't banned from pro boxing like the Cubans were. He should have dedicated himself to the pros after 2020. Why bother going to a second Olympics? The fact he went for a second Olympics alone showed you he wasn't serious. He could have been fighting for a world title at this point had he actually taken the pros seriously by 2021. To me, the Olympics needs to ban these so called amateurs from a second Olympics. If you won a medal in one Olympics, you can't compete anymore in future Olympics as a boxer.
He made the mistake of signing with Top Rank, who have a history of ruining fighters from the former Soviet republics. Korobov, Mekhontsev, etc. They will not put him into meaningful fights until he's faded from age, meaningless opposition and inactivity.
Clearly too scared to lose his '0' in the pros, considering he is fighting someone this weekend ranked 400th worldwide. Same with Dychko I'd assume.
In Jalolov's case it looks like he is stuck between styles: his amateur and pro one. Maybe once he starts to pick up momentum things will get better. When it comes to Dychko. The main reason he went pro was to support his family. That's why things haven't really happened with him.
Are we banning the Phelps and Bolts of the world because they already won Gold and it "wouldn't be fair" somehow?
no because for those sports, Olympics is the pinnacle along with world championships. Boxing is different. The pro game is meant to be separate from the amateur game. The amateur game is meant to be preparation for the pro game.
