Whatever happened to the welterweight from nottingham. He was once ranked in the top10 welterweights by ring magazine.but i think he had a problem with getting meaningfull fights. he was ibo champ its like he fell of the face of the earth. What happened to him.
I used to live about 1 minute away from him , no idea about the fighting but he used to be a taxi driver as well.
Yeah thats a good question. There was talk of a fight with Vernon Forrest at one point but that seemed to fall through. They even spoke with each other via mobile live on tele one time after one of his fights. Jawaid was a good fighter but was always a little vulnerable to punches.
Tommy Gilmour happened to him. Couldnt deliver big fights for Khaliq & as a result he stagnated & disappeared.
He retired last year. Pissed off with the fight game and not getting good fights. Very little has been said, maybe a lot of bad blood but he did seem to be moving on well in his life with business commitments.
There wasnt talk of that fight at all. Forrest was just coming off the back of destroying Mosley in there 1st contest and Khaliq had just entered the top 10 after a hellacious give and take bout with Jan Biergman. To be honest the result of that fight was a farce as Khaliq got dropped twice with his chin out in the air and Bergman by that stage was shot to pieces. Still an exicting fight though. Khaliq spent his time trying to goad Forrest into a bout. But to be honest it was about as credible as when Takaloo called out DLH to come to Margate. The one fight that was supposed to happen was him vs Adrian Stone or James Hare. Neither fight happened, and both Stone and Hare went on to be brutally beaten in the lata stages of there careers and retired from the domestic scene. Along with our light middles of that time those 3 fighters all went to waste for no reason other than promoters trying to protect there investments.
:good Spot on Scurla..... Extra point... He boxed just like Amir Khan I thought... Not sure its because of his ethnicity or style but i've alwys found the comparison between Khaliq and Khan easier then the one between Hamed and Khan.
No question about the styles there. There VERY similar except Khaliq wasnt as fast as Khan but he did have some pop when he plated his feet. His chin was always waving in there air and begging to be hit though.atsch
I did hear he was doing ok for himself. Just could not dedicate himself to boxing if he was not going to get the opportunities he thought he deserved.
